Good morning one and all. . . . Over the past few months I have been able to pick up a Sig 228 and a Sig 225. Needless to say -- they are GREAT pistols ! ! Both pistols came with the white dot/white bar style sights. Well . . . . . CDNN has Sig "night sights" on sale for a really good price. I ordered a new "front only" night sight for both of these pistols. They installed in a breeze are are really "bright". However . . . the sight base is "black" which does not show up very good in most light conditions. Should I just "paint" the face of the front sight with white paint, but not over the "night sight" dot ? ? Does this make any sense ?!?!? Any thoughts/opinions greatly appreciated ! ! |

Perhaps after degreasing you can apply a thinned white enamel around the capsule, with just a circular outline remaining. Depending on how deep the capsule is inserted, a solvent soaked rag wiped over the sight when the paint is still damp will leave a residual outline...some skill, patience and a magnifing glass may be needed, at least with my old eyes, the latter is. Some brands of night sights already have that outline, making them usable even when the tritium fades or in normal daylight. The paint, removable with solvent, will wipe off making experimenting possible. At least whatever you do at this point can be undone. For a more permanent job, I mix 2 part epoxy with white enamel, but it is thicker to work with. |
