I bought a p290 a couple months ago and finally got around to shooting it yesterday. Out of 32 rounds, 12 did not fire. 26 rounds were Herter's steel case rounds and the other six were Remington hollow points. All 6 Remingtons fired fine. The issues were with the Herter's. Each round that did not fir subsequently fired without issue from my Beretta 92.

Now I understand that the Herter's ammo is not the best. However, I have fired thousands of rounds in at least 7 different handguns without a single issue, including other Sigs. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. In fact, I'm ready to dump it and get a Nano or CM9.

Never had a problem with my P290, even with Pakistani and Russia steel cheapos - but I did have to clean it thoroughly after each use.
I'd suggest if it persists call Sig they will fix it.

I am planning to call them tomorrow. Hopefully this is something they can fix. I have always bought and recommended Sigs for a reason. I'm still in disbelief.

I put a couple boxes of Herter 380 through a Kahr P380 and it was jamming every other magazine. Will never use it in another gun I own.  Try a couple hundred rounds of different ammo and see if you still have any problems.

I called Sig. The response was that it was probably the ammo. He said they could look at it, but they would use different ammo so they might not be able to replicate the problem.

Am I expecting too much? All I want is for this gun to perform as well as my other Sig, many Glocks, Beretta, HK, etc., which have never had a single issue with the stuff.

Sig just earned a with me.

Were there marks from the firing pin on the FTF rounds?  My P290 stopped dropping the hammer all the way after about 30 rounds.  I had to send it back and they replaces some trigger parts.

I am having the same problem in my 290. I have sent it back it back once for the night sights being dead and twice for it having light primer strikes. I have been using that cheap tul ammo and it seems to fire just fine out of a glock after attempting to fire it out of the Sig. So i know that the ammo isnt bad. should i just sell the darn thing and was my hand of the whole thing? i sure dont have any confidence it this thing to carry it!

You have a concealed carry pistol that you bought to trust your life to. If it functions fine with brass cased stuff, and that's what you're going to carry, what's the problem? Save your steel cased stuff for range fun with guns it works in.

You didn't skimp on your pistol, don't skimp on your ammo.

It will do it with remington umc as well and if the gun was truely a good gun i want the darn thing to go bang with whatever crap i put in it. This gun was purchased for my gf to shot when we went... to get her all practiced up for when she gets her ccl and more comfortable with opperating a hand gun. So for her to shoot this gun and it no go off time and time again i can see how she is a little disappointed. She has no confidence/trust in it and you know how girls are... they hold grudges!  I personally like the gun but if it doesnt get fixed to my liking i think ill will have to sell it and give the money and she will have to buy a new something.

I understand what you are saying. Since my original post I have put over 200 rounds of brass cased ammo through my 290 without a single issue. Still, every single other gun I have shoots it without issue, including my 229.

I like the 290 now and have carried it quite a bit and shoot very well with it. I am planning to keep mine at this point.
