Well I stumbled across a sweet deal on a two tone W/NS Sig P238. He said he has put 400 problem free rounds down the barrel, and just recently replaced the recoil spring. I paid $450 shipped which included 2 mags and a leather pocket holster (No FFL because we live in the same state!). He said his gun was made after the safety recall. I've been doing a lot of research here and found that some seem to be so problematic it's too frustrating for people because they have had to send it to Sig 4-5 different times. My question is it possible for me to have found a lucky one? Also does something have to do with it being manufactured after the recall? In other words did Sig step up after the recall and start making quality 238's or are there problematic ones across the board?
I'm praying this thing comes to me and works, because it'll be perfect for what I want. I sold me P3AT to help fund this so hopefully I don't have to go searching again for another one. Thanks in advance. |
| I noticed the stock Sig recoil springs take a set very quickly. I got 3 free recoil springs + 3 free firing pin springs from Sig and although the firing pin spring was fine and as long as the new springs I decided to change out the recoil spring noticing it was 1/2in shorter than the new ones. I put it in, racked the slide 4 times and took it back out and it was already a 1/4in shorter than a new spring. The springs are either too thin or are just made of poor material. I've never had a spring in any gun take a set that fast...and I mean in about 30 seconds from installation, racking and taking it back out... so I plan on changing them out frequently until the last 2 Sig springs are gone and then go with a 12lb Colt Mustang (basically the same gun) recoil spring from Wolff which is what others have done. You can even use the Colt Mustang magazines but their followers are the same older design that Sig changed away from because people where having issues with them. |

Yea from the research I've gathered this is very true. I've read that the Wolf 12lb springs are nice too. In fact the seller did tell me that he did just replace the spring, but hasn't shot it since. The seller did offer me a colt mag, but I passed because I did have a mustang a while back and it gave me fits. It seems like it's hit or miss with these P238's and I hope mine is a hit. Seems like it but we'll see.
Thanks for all your input. Anything else? |

I talked with Sig and they said they created a spring that is 2 lbs stronger than the standard spring that is causing problems. He also said that it should eliminate feeding issues since there will be a few lbs more force in the action. I'm wondering when they changed it because the 3 I got from Sig seem no different than the stock spring. ETA: Well got off the phone with Sig, sure enough the 3 they sent me are the older style which would explain why they took a set so fast. so their sending the 12lb springs out today. The firing pin springs are fine though. I suggest anyone having issues to call them as well before buying a Wolff spring since it should be the same thing if the new springs are indeed 12lbs. I have to admit that at least Sig is doing something about the issues with mag follower changes and springs they will send free to customers.

I'm glad they have helped you out as well. Mine took a set already after the 200 rounds, but is still working now. Can't wait to get the new spring in. Thanks. Good to hear. Taking a set is fine since all springs are suppose to, but doing so after 4 racks of a slide is bogus. |

Agreed! The spring showed up in the mail today and it is a lot better. It actually is quite resistant going in, which made me realize this is a lot bette spring. Racked it back a few times and there is a definite change, and the slide snaps back with a lot better force. Hopefully you get yours soon.

Nice surprise was they also sent me a free mag with the latest follower at no cost! |
