| Word from Ed's Public Safety is that Glock is ceasing production on OD guns. They have some OD 36's and 34's in stock. Get em while you can! |
| yeah, i just ordered a G19 w/ the OD frame... i have always wanted one but i kept putting it off for other toys, but when i heard about them being discontinued i jumped at the first opportunity i had. it's been said that people don't like the color and that it's really not "OD" but i love it. if i come across another one i will certainly be tempted to buy it. i don't understand why they would discontinue this model. i really like the look of the 2-tone Glocks - they're different. they really should keep some variety in their product catalog. people like options. |

Ditto. Did the same thing with a G17, & a G17 RTF2 w/ gills. Both being discontinued so I couldn't put it off any more. |

Doesn't take much to convince myself. I am just hoping when I can save up again that an OD G23 is still somewhere.

i have been going back and forth on a OD G19 or a RTF2 G19 Get the OD first. Its all ready out of production. The RTFs are still widely available for now. I just got home from doing the paper work for my OD 19 & 23. I also got a chance to check them out right out of the box from UPS. I would of ordered a 17 and 22 also if they could of ordered them for me, but the supplier is already out of stock on those. |

The RTFs are still widely available for now. i was vacationing down in the outer banx (OBX, NC) this past week and i stopped at this small bait and tackle shop and i discovered they had a stockpile of OD Glocks. seriously, i think this guy is hoarding them... i counted 6 Glocks with the OD frame! i believe they were listed for $517 each, which is a fair price i guess, but i have never seen so many OD Glocks in one place. in fact, prior to this i have never seen one in person! they really are nice looking and i'm glad i ordered a G19 OD… i cannot wait for it to come in! |

I think I am done buying guns for awhile, two in one week. ![]() |
| That's not too bad. Last week I picked up my 17,19 & 23 RTF's. The week before I picked up a trade in 22. So that makes 6 in 3 weeks. When I went to the police dept. too do the paper work yesterday, they were asking when the collection was going to be complete. Bank account says I need a break for a while. Thankfuly my next job site will make it near impossible too buy for another year or so. |

Over the years I have noticed that often a new, different color version of a previous polymer item suffers from longevity while the original colored version does not suffer those same ails. Usually it was a case of the color additive adversely affecting the life of the polymer.
I wonder if such an issue is why Glock is discontinuing them. |

I wonder if such an issue is why Glock is discontinuing them. highly unlikely... i think it has to do with the fact that the demand is just not there, as with the NS and the RTF2... i mean it's not like they're just discontinuing the OD frames. for what ever reason it appears that they're cutting out a lot of options and focusing on standard GEN3 and GEN4 production. i bet OD/RTF2/NS pistols were such a small part of total production numbers. ETA: it would be interesting to actually see build numbers and then further break them down into percentages and compare the different models to get an idea of their "popularity." |
|
I've always liked the OD models. (I have an OD 17 and an OD 19)
But, I'm sure they're being discontinued due to a lack of sales, so they can devote more production time to the more popular versions. (all the desert camo and carbon fiber looking models from a couple years ago were painted OD frame models, as I recall) |

Maybe Glock will come out with something that actually resembles green. That would be great. I am contemplating an OD 26 but the color is crap. I would really like something in legitimate forest/hunter green. Finish it I did this one in Duracoat. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa185/heath223/005-12.jpg Thats exactly what I am talking about. Now if only they would come out with that. Do you have to bake it? |

Did you guys here that there is a problem with the OD frames? Did Glock continue them because of problems or just to piss me off? Fortunately I have a G19 and G34 in OD but wanted a G17 also. Any word? I have never heard of a problem and I read up on the Glock forums every day. I have carried an OD 26 for 4 years with no problems. I just bought an OD 17 the other week when I heard they were discontinuing them. If you want an OD 17 call Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply in Fort Collins Colorado as they have one left as of tonight. They are also offering 15% off till 8/28/10 so you can get it well under $500. |

Usually it was a case of the color additive adversely affecting the life of the polymer. I've got two buddies with OD G34's. They both put in the cheap little plastic Jentra plugs. Both frames cracked at the lanyard hole down to the bottom of the magwell when the Jentra plug was inserted.. I've NEVER seen a black framed Glock do this. |

I had the plug in my OD 26 in and out several times with no problems......wonder why the 34 OD's had problems? EDIT TO ADD: My 26OD does not have a lanyard hole after checking I noticed this. That is why no crack. |

Still not convinced the OD frames are sub-par. Anything that is wedge shaped, and pushed in too far or with too much force will break parts. If you push hard enough in a black frame, a crack could happen. |
|
Use a heat gun with the plug installed to mend the crack. It's just polymer. Just apply a small amount of heat at a time until you get the results you want. |
I am just hoping when I can save up again that an OD G23 is still somewhere.
