I'll preface this by saying that I'm a brand-new Glock owner, and I'm still learning. I steered away from Glock for several years before finally picking one up and thinking "They aren't quite as uncomfortable as they look." Finally ended up with a G26, and I'm already aching to fill in the rest of the 9mm family. Seems like this is going to be almost as bad as BRD. Anyway, on to the question.

I'm a little confused about the different variations/models of Glock factory magazines.

For instance, what is the difference between the standard G19 and the G19SF mags? I gather that one is cut differently for an ambi mag catch, but the wording on the below ads is less than clear.

"Glock 17/17SF 9mm 17rd Mag New Factory  ->  Product Description: Brand New • 4th Generation Glock Factory Mag • Cut For Ambidextrous Mag Catch for SF Model Only!"

"Glock 19/19SF 9mm 15rd Drop Free Mag New Factory  ->  Product Description: Brand New • 4th Generation Glock Factory Mag • These Mags Will Fit Both The New Glock 19SF and the Glock 19, Cut For Ambidextrous Mag Catch."

"Glock 19 9mm 15rd 4th Gen. Drop Free Mag New Factory  ->  Product Description: Brand New • Factory Mag • 4th Gen. • WILL NOT FIT AMBIDEXTROUS SAFETY MODEL"

For clarity's sake, I'm shopping for backup mags for my new G26, as well as stockpiling for a G19 that I see in my hopefully-not-too-distant future. Which mags should I be going with?

For the gen 19 mags, get the gen4 mag, it will work in the gen3, gen4 and SF model GLOCKs.
I seriously doubt we'll see the 19 with the ambi mag release in this country.
The only ambi mag release here was the 21SF, which is no longer being made.

The gen3 mags are notched on the left side of the mag, the gen4 mags are notched on both sides (and front)
since the gen4 mag release can be swapped from the left to the right side of the frame.
The so called SF mags have a cutout in the front for the ambi mag release.
