Just got back from purchasing a G23 (also my first handgun ever!).

Probably a stupid question, but what Gen is it?  Can you tell from my pic below?  Or can you tell me how to tell, if you can't see from the pic?

That's what I was figuring, as it seems most current buys are Gen3's.

Thanks for the info and the congrats!

I just picked up a G23 RTF2 (also Gen3) yesterday and am looking forward to getting it to the range. The new Gen4s are just starting to trickle out now. I've not seen any in local shops. I did a thread recently trying to gauge the forum's opinion on the Gen3 vs. Gen4 thing. Pretty even right now, though the tried and true Gen3 got the nod from me, as well. That pistol will outlast you. Great choice.

Out of pure curiosity, what made you decide on .40 for your first handgun (nothing wrong with that, just asking)?

Thanks man!

Well, I was almost dead set on a G19.  But I figured I could get the G23, and then the Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and some G19 mags........and essentially have 2 guns in 1 package.  .40 for CCW, 9mm for range time/plinking.  I usually have a lot of 9mm laying around, from my 9mm AR.

BTW, check this thread out. You will no longer be an "idiot" when it comes to Glocks!

Not a bad plan at all. I've been a big anti-.40 guy for a long time. It was 9s and 45s for me. I'll be starting a job soon that will issue a G22, so a switch to .40 was unavoidable. Who knows, after a few range sessions, I may have to eat some of my words of years' past in dissing the .40.

BTW, Is this gun new? If so, what number is on the magazine follower?

I'm curious about the OP's as well.

The mags that came with my new G23RTF2 had a "2" on the back and the followers are "8."

This is interesting. I've only seen the #9 follower in GEN4 cut mags. Maybe it's to fix a proprietary GEN4 issue?

Hmm, quite possibly. It'll be interesting to see if any "gen3" mags ever get the "9" follower in them.

I thought the RTF's were rough all over the whole entire grip.

Yes, it was NIB.  My 2 mags are the same as Hero said; "2" on the back of the mag, "8" on the follower.

That's RTF2. RTF is the standard GEN2/3.

Interesting. What is the date on the spent case envelope?

That's what I keep hearing and reading; that Glocks are the AK's of the handgun world.

Mine has the straight serrations. I didn't like the "gills" enough that they were a big reason I held off of an RTF2 before. Now with the straight serrations I decided to go for it. It was kind of risky for me because I had never shot one, only handled them. I just got back from the range after running 100 through it. Ran perfectly, of course, but I must say that I like the RTF2 a lot. Great purchase on the weapon; the grip is very positive. I can see where it would be terrific for wet or sweaty hands. Though, I must admit, I never had a problem with the regular RTF before.

GLOCKREAPER, my fired case date is 05/04/10.

Just got back from putting 100 rounds through it.

Just as expected, if performed flawlessly.

Being that this is my first handgun, I know I need some work and lots of trigger time on it.  I can already see where I'm pulling a little bit, in anticipation of the round going off.  It's not a problem I've ever had with long guns, though.

I'll start pulling the trigger and I tighten up at the last second before pulling all the way, and it throws off my aim a little bit.  I have to work on that.  So far, the only way I can avoid it right now, is after firing the first shot, only letting the trigger out far enough to reset and then squeezing off the next round.  Rinse and repeat.

That's the real beauty of shooting a Glock, the reset makes follow up shots fast and accurate.
