I have a two year old set of used Meprolights night sights on my G21. The only reason I have them is I picked them up off a member here for $30 shipped. I have used them a bit and like them. White donuts are easy to see in the day and nice and bright at night. Always wanted a set for my G17. Never bought them because of the cost.

The wife last night asked me why the 9 didn't have NS and when I was going to get them for the 17. All I heard was buy more night sights. She likes them (NS) because I spend allot of time out of town working nights. She has asked me to leave my 21 and take the 17 to cc because of the NS and "three to the chest with a .45, would drop a bad guy wicked fast." (Her words. New sig inbound!)

Is there any reason I should go with something else than Meprolights for my G17? Am I missing out on something? Thanks for any help.

I started out with Glock Night Sights on my 19 when I bought it(They were installed by the previous owner).  I used them for a while and got used to them but I always felt they were a bit lacking...

I read around and saw the popular recomendations for "alternative" night sights that aren't the traditional 3 dot setup were 10-8, Warren, Heinie, and Ameriglo.

I went with Warren because of the rave reviews(including some professional competitors whom I will never be able to compare myself to).

The warrens have wider light "bars" and it certainly makes the sights easier all around to aim.  I also MUCH prefer having a dot only on the front sight- in rapid fire its the only thing you really pick up on.  With the 3 dot sights I always felt like it took too long to recover and refocus on the front sight.

I'm a big fan on the Warren Tac sights I bought.  It was honestly a toss-up between Ameriglo Pro Operators and Warren Tac Sights for me.  The Warrens were available from a local dealer so they won out in the end.

Second vote for Warrens here.  Although I prefer their FO stuff over their tritium offering it is good to go as well.

TruGlo TFOs.  They glow during the day because of the FO inserts and glow at night because of the tritium inserts in front of the FO pipes.

Take a look at AmeriGlo.  I really like their wide-notch serrated-face, plain black rear with a front-only night sight.

yes. i have mepros on my 21, TFOs on my 19. the TFOs are just as bright in the dark, but they'll just about burn out your retinas under direct sunlight!

personally, i really like the TFOs, they glow day or night. it's like the best of both worlds and definitely worth the money.

I have the fully adjustable Meprolight sights on my G17. They're great.

I am currently testing a set of XS 24/7 sights small dot. They are taking a bit to get used to.
I'm not so sure I like the rear sight on the XS.
I also have a set of Heinie straight eights to try but I'm going to need a sight tool to get the rear installed, even with a bit of filing on the base its an extremely tight fit.

So what is it about aftermarket NS that are better than the Glock NS?  Wider rear notch, brighter tritium, larger front....?  I am also wanting some ns for a new G19 and was strongly considering the Glock ones.

For me the partially U shaped rear and thinner front of the Warrens makes for a quicker flash sight picture and more accurate aiming reference point over the stock night sights.

The standard factory sights (not tritium) are simply not up to the hard use that most shooters should be putting their pistols through, much less if you carry a weapon for a living.
