Been shooting a while…. Started out with 1911 but I have shot a lot of guns (Glock included) but today was the last straw…. Now don’t get me wrong I still love my 1911 but from now on it’s going to be a RANGE ONLY gun….. Took it shooting today…. Went through 3 mags and then the gun wouldn’t Fire… like the safety was on… double checked that the safety was off… it was… made sure I was gripping properly… I was but no boom…. Set it aside and proceeded to put numerous holes in the target with my G22 no problem…. I love the 1911 but the G22 is going to be my carry gun from now on….
I have transitioned to the dark side
Note: took the 1911 home and checked… hammer still wouldn’t move… took it apart (complete disassemble except for removing trigger)… nothing wrong…. For sanity sake I just put it back together and it’s working again…. Makes me nervous… the gun is stock… only thing I ever did was polish the bead blast off the slide…..(stainless) |

I'm trying to make myself buy a 1911 as my next purchase. Just don't know if I'll get it done or not. I'm going to try though!
For the last 2 handgun purchases I've said I needed to buy something other than a Glock, preferably an all metal gun. Hasn't happened yet. I'm no Kool Aid drinker, I just haven't found anything that does it better for me personally. |

| I love my G22 as well. I have also gained a new respect for my G22 after doing a tactical class where we had to eject magazines in the dirt (silt). No malfunctions, even with budget aluminum cased Blazer ammo. If I had my 1911, even in a clean environment with brass cases, this would have never happened. 1911's seem a little finicky for me (ok I don't have a $2k 1911 either...but the Glock is cheap compared to even a low priced 1911). Yes when 1911's work they work great and sling 8 or maybe 9 rounds of 230gr lead. But I know my Glock will bang as long as there is ammo, no ifs ands or buts. Gotta love em! |
I feel ya. I carried a Glock 27 for most of my CCW run but for about a 6 month stretch, I started carrying a 1911 after I sold the Glock to my buddy. One morning, I was getting ready to leave and when I did my routine morning press-check/decock, the grip safety stuck and my finger made it to the trigger before my thumb the hammer and kaboom. No one got hurt as I am always muzzle-conscious but the 185gn Golden Saber +P completely destroyed my Blackberry and added a vent hole to my night stand. I just stood there trying to figure out what had happened and my wife just poked her head out of the bathroom, saw that I wasn't dead, and just went back to drying her hair. She was excited to finally get a matching pair of replacement night stands and has since made me a list of furniture and appliances in the house to shoot
Anyway, long story short: I still have my Blackberry-Eating, Furniture-Juggernaut Talo Colt Commander but I am back to carrying a Glock. I looked at it as an excuse to order the G29 I always wanted and truth be told, I don't think I'll be swapping out again. Fortunately I had the insurance plan on the phone so it only cost me $50 to get a new one but the looks on the faces of the guys at Verizon were priceless when I took it in later that day |

I really like my 1911's. And I have carried each of them CCW and one for duty. But my Glock has never had a failure. As a matter of fact, of all the Glocks I've owned I had a G22 that had FTE's using Golden Sabre 165 gr. and one G36 that had FTE's due to the mag extension. Thats it.
I've carry a .49 Glock on duty for some years now. I also have a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and mags for the G23 that has never failed. |

I dreamed of having a 1911, I finally bought a Springfield Loaded 5" . I loved it, even though I had to replace the extractor after a few months. I put in a Ed brown, so it was worth it anyway.
I was very anti Glock for years, no reason just didn't like them. After carrying my 1911 everyday for a few years, and maybe 2000 rds I was at the range and the safety tube came loose. I bought a new one and re-staked it but I just wasn't happy about it. A few months latter I bought a Glock 19, and that became my ccw. Now a few years later I carry either a 26 or 19 every day and a 21sf on weekend. I don't even own a 1911 anymore. I am not saying they are junk, that would be stupid. I am sure there are hundred of thousands out there that are great guns, and 100% reliable I just am more comfortable carrying a Glock, (if money was not a issue I still would love a Ed Brown or even a 1970 Colt Combat Commander |

Over 25 or so years of carrying and shooting pistols, I have used/carried just about everything- beretta sig hk smith glock 1911 walther -when the smoke clears the only autos I still shoot frequently and carry are the 1911's and the glocks.
Despite the old school reputation of the 1911 for reliability, it must be considered the guns that built that rep were gi spec guns shooting hardball ,not the highly modified guns of today trying to shoot lead, hollw points and who knows what. While I have confidence in glocks they are "perfection" either- I have seen some choke while properly maintained and fed good ammo. Will say was a ta glock sponsored match last weekend and didn't see anyone who had any functional problems with thier guns. I doubt any other gun maker could bring a hundred shooters together and have so few problemd with guns |

Welcome to the dark side When I took a handgun safety course (required here to own a handgun), part of the course required range time. Our instructor brought out a good variety of handguns, a glock and a 1911 were some of them. As much as I loved the 1911, it jammed quite frequently. Maybe something was worn out and needed replacing, or maybe it was just a fluke, but it still jammed. The glock on the other hand ran flawlessly. Few months later and I'm a proud glock owner myself! To make a long story short, good choice! |

mine must have all been defective. Springfield, S&W, Kimber, Wilson Combat all must turn out malfunctioning weapons and send them to me. I've owned many firearms and the ONLY one to ever have a malfunction was a G19 that had a weak mag spring. Quoted: yeah...don't ever bet your life on a 1911. they take some work to get them bullet proof. if the SHTF i'm grabbing my Glock. |
we are always taking new members.
