| Photos of the differences in frames of 17 v 22 and 19 v 23. For illustration as to why you can go 40-9 but not 9-40 in same frame. Thanks in advance!z |

Quoted:
it has nothing to do with the frame. they are identical. the holes cut in the slide for the barrel are smaller in the 9's and a 40 cal wont fit through it. on the other hand, the 40-9 barrel has thicker walls which allow the 9mm to be used. That's it right there. |
| The only difference in the frame between the Glock 17 frame and the Glock 22 frame would be the locking block. There is no difference between the Glock 19 and the Glock 23 frame. With that said - a Glock 17 slide will work on a Glock 22 frame and visa versa... As for the 40S&W and 9mm swap - the above posts are 100% correct. FYI - a Glock 37 utilizes the Glock 17 style locking block frame and a Glock 22 firing pin in the slide... |

While hmaverick's response is correct, there is another element he didn't mention, the breachface. The 9mm slide's breachface is cut wide enough for a 9mm case rim (imagine that) while the 40s&w's breachface is cut for the larger dia 10mm case (40s&w has is a 10mm dia round) and therefore too big to fit in the breachface of a 9mm Glock even if one were to enlarge the hole in the front of the slide for the larger dia barrel. |
| So you can do a complete slide switch-a-roo with 17 to 22 and vice versa? I understand the LW 40-9 barrel/extractor and mag follower bit, but complete slide (and mag follower) is do-able from 9 to 40 on a 9mm frame? Just looking for clarification and have not found this topic addressed (search fu is weak not being a team member). Thought I was crazy as I couldn't notice a difference between the frames just eyeballing it. |
