Hi,
I'm considering a G36. I've asked in my HTF where to try one and am awaiting answers there. But I'm wondering how the Glock shooters think a G36 feels compared to a G26. I know it will buck more, I own a different kind of .45. But I'm wondering more in terms of pointing, grip angle, overall ergonomics and general feel. The G26 has been my primary ccw. I have a good amount of practice in with it and own a .22 conversion for it with even more practice on it. I want a polymer .45 for hiking/camping and don't mind the lower capacity of the G36. I'm hoping I like how it feels and shoots when I find one and that my training with G26 will directly cross over.
Any input at all about the G36 is appreciated. Thanks.

They are not comparable in size. The G36 (with a mag inserted) is closer in size to a G19.

That said, my G30 (same size just double stack) shot very well for a .45 of its size. Glock .45s are very soft shooting.

I own both a G27 & G36. The G36 is in fact about the same size as the G19 (with mag inserted), and having owned a G30 in the past, I can say that the recoil is more noticeable in the 36 versus the 30, but not overly uncomfortable. I carry in a DeSantis SOB holster for my 27, 36 and Beretta 92FS, and the 27 feels much smaller than even the 36, so even the 1/2" of size is noticeable. Overall I like the 36, and carry it daily.

As they've said, the 36 is larger than the 26. It is thinner though, so that's a plus. You give up capacity and the 36 is going to kick a bit more, but it's one thin and lightweight .45, that's for sure. I wouldn't bother with it in your case unless you are that set to upgrade to .45 in your carry piece.

It's larger than the 26, but I find it to be the second-most comfortable of the Glocks for me (the 17 sized pistols being the first).

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking forward to handling one, and a G30 too. The .45 Glock would overall be for hiking/backpacking, I just want a round heavier than 9mm, but don't want to carry my steel 1911. I'm not considering replacing the G26, it will still be my edc piece. The .45 Glock would generally be role specific.

I'm really hoping I can find an opportunity to try one around here - any advice or input till then is definately food for thought - thanks.

I have owned both. You can't go wrong either way imo. Figure out which caliber you want and buy it.

If you had a G27 /40 cal instead of the G26/  9mm you could just swap barrels and mags to  9mm, 40, or 357. Three guns in one!
Use the more powerful 357 for backpacking. The G26 and 27 are just about the same size.

I can get my hand around a G36, not a G26.

Something else to consider.......
To me the 36 has more felt recoil than the double stack 30. The 36 will be a bit easier to cary due to the thinness
but if grip size is an issue the 30sf is a bit smaller than the regular 30
