Okay.... I'm sure this had been discussed before, but a search brought up nothing recent in this forum. How does everyone feel about frame plugs?

I personally do not see it as a "keep stuff out of the frame" tool, I don't care about dust or anything, as its easy to swab it out during cleaning.  I also don't really care about the "clean" look of the plugged frame.

My issue is with reloads under stress. When practicing reloads, I sometimes catch the magazine on the circular cut out at the back of the mag well on my Glock 19. I understand that the cut serves the purpose of removing a stuck/swollen magazine from the gun, but with FML mags, I don't see this really happening. The base of the magazine is also easy enough to grip and "rip" from the gun, at least for me.

I'm getting ready to order a couple Jentra plugs, to try them out. They appear to have a bevel that would help guide the magazine into the gun. What is your preference?

Most Glocks don't need them, but I put one in my 30 and it was just enough to make that little gun fit my hand better.

I don't see a down side unless you plan on swimming alot with your Glock.

I don't feel like I need one so I prefer leaving the opening as is. No problem with those who use them.

I have one of those plug with a compartment, stuck a spare hydrashock HP round in there. Hey, might need it someday/time and I don't plan to scuba dive with my glock.

The plug in my G22 and G23 makes for a more comfortable bottom to the grip.

I understand the thought for people wanting a cleaner, smoother reload.

I use a G35 for USPSA and with the Dawson Magwell being plugged(the retention for the magwell) it's nice to have a smooth hole.

My thought, as a compromise, install the plug but drill a hole in the bottom of the plug.  Allows reloads to not catch and hole allows for debris to still fall through.

Me.....  I do NOT plug mine.  Only way (other than my Dawson above) would be a shoulder stock for a G18!!!     (heavy sigh..... some day!!)

This is another thing that does not concern me much. I live in a damn desert!

My thoughts as well.  I like the look and I feel it helps keep the crud out.  Either way if you don't like them, then that is cool as well.  Why do so many people get up in arms over this stuff?

To me they seem unecessary.

Of course, you could always use one to keep a last-ditch "suicide round" in the backstrap channel................for Zombie SHTF.

Tried to get the mag out and had trouble getting ahold of it?  Yet another reason to not have a plug in.

I don't have one on my 17 but the guy I got my 26 from put one in and I left it...it does smooth out the bottom and that's the gun I carry.

It really doesn't matter.

I have plugs in my G30 and my G27. They make a great place to carry the little tiny allen wrench needed to adjust the CT Lasergrips. It isn't needed often, but it's nice to have it in the grip when it is needed.

Yes,
Being able to get a solid grip on the rear of the mag with your thumb, helps alot when it comes time to rip a stuck mag out of your pistol.

Personally I don't see the need.  The way the Glock is engineered, if it needed it, they would have put one there.

But, if you have one and like it.  Go for it.  It's your gun, do with it what you like...

Same reason I have one on my Glock 19.

That seems a bit one sided. They didn't see the need to put metal sights on their guns but we replace them anyhow.

Glock offers three metal sight options from the factory.

I have a plug in my G21, I tried to get one for my G30SF but I gave up.
I don't have one on my G19 and I have no plans on getting one.

I really don't think they do anything for the gun other than filling a hole in the gun.
Down side is it fills the space to stick your thumb in if you need to clear a double feed by ripping out the mag...

Yeah, that's if you pay the extra loot to get them. I was talking about more of a standard practice vs. and option.

I just put one of the TacRac plugs that has two pin punches built in.  I like having the ability to do more than just basic fieldstripping away from home, but as far as looks, I could care less.  But I'm kind of annoyed because it rattles like crazy.  I'm going to see if a single piece of electrical tape wrapped around will shim it for a better fit, but if that doesn't do the trick I'm sending it back.

Now we are on, what, 4th generation? If they are engineered so perfect, why the changes from the "original recipe" from back in the 80's?

That is the exact reason mine don't have plugs.

I tried a single piece of electrical tape on the curved part of the plug (cut away a spot for the spring-loaded plunger) and the rattle is gone.  Taking it back out is a bit of a process, but I don't see the need to be constantly removing the plug.  As a takedown tool, it's a backup only.
