Will Gen 4 mags fit in Gen 2 and Gen 3 glocks?

Will Gen 2 or 3 mags fit in a gen 4 glock?

Thanks

I believe the Gen 4 mags have a new notch on the front for the ambi mag release so Gen 1,2,and 3 mags will not work in Gen 4 but Gen 4 mags should work in a 1,2,and 3 gen guns.... I think...

That is correct.

It is my understanding that the new Gen4 mags have a mag catch cut into both sides of the magazine rather than only of the left side (when viewed from the back). This is to accomodate the revesible magazines release. The exposed rectangular cut in the front of some of the more recent magazines is not used in the Gen4. All older style magazines will work in the Gen4 guns provided that the magazine release is kept on the traditional (right hander) side. Those older magazines will not work in the Gen4 guns if the magazine release is reversed to the left hander's side as they do not have the opposite side cut.

The new Gen4 mags should work perfectly in the older generation guns.

Additionally, if you use the magazine release of the Gen.4 frame in the conventional right hand position all your old magazines should work.  I guess we should have been calling the magazines with the front cut "SF type".

Glock seems to be a bit schizophrenic lately.  They have gone from zero options to a whole lot of options.  Gen.3's, SFs with both pic or glock rails and standard or ambi magazine releases, then RTF2s, and now Gen.4s...  Yet still no single stack micro 9mm, 5.7mm, or Carbine models.

That would require VASTLY more retooling than those other options you mention.

They're still makin' a huge profit, still with a huge share of the overall market.  From a strictly business perspective, there's no reason to change at this time.

Yep. Also a PF-9 type Glock would not be importable.

Good call. Potential issues with the BATFE's idiotic "points" system.

While I was being a bit sarcastic in my reply, I must disagree.  When a company is making "a huge profit" is exactly when they should be doing new things.  Should they wait until they can not pay the light bill to try and retake market share?  I know Glock has some production capability in the US now.  Even if it is not enough currently to add a hopefully PM9 like(not PF-9, ) product, they can expand.  Especially in the current state of the economy, I would think GA would be excited to have new jobs.  There is zero risk involved for Glock, assuming they develop/produce a working pistol.  You know it will sell.  I would put one on order the day I heard about it.

Now the 5.7mm is where some of the sarcasm started.  I can understand the reluctance to get into the 5.7 market.  Since the only major sources of ammunition are still controlled by FN.  Plus the 5.7mm's reception and apparent performance are questionable.  However, I have wanted a 5.7mm since they came out, for shooting sakes, and I am just waiting for one to cross the counter at the right price.  If Glock currently offered a 5.7mm pistol at the same price point as the 20/21, I would have one now.

"Glock Carbine" is all sarcasm.  I have no interest in PCC's and I am very unlikely to get into a new assault rifle variant.  Satisfied with AR15s, not looking to change or add on.

While I am on the subject of things Glock should do, accessories; I am pretty sure their is a market there for factory threaded barrels for the 17, 19, 21, etc.  How about a Glock factory 22 conversion for 17s, 19s, etc.?

I can't wait to see how many notches/cutouts/etc will be on a Gen6 Glock mag.

At the rate they are "carving up" their magazines, the Gen 6 magazines will be nothing more than a minimal skeletonized steel frame devoid of any polymer and most likely, "disposable after a single use".
