I'm thinking about having Bowie Tactical do a grip reduction and stippling on my 19. Does anyone have any experiance with Bowie?

I had a grip stipling done, he did a great job but it took a long time. the grip is outstanding you wont loose the gun even with oily hands.

Ill just say IMHO he is one of the best , but their are a few others out there that are just as good .

I've met him and attended training classes at which we was the instructor. I've also handled a hand full of his pistols. They are top notch; I'd love to have a Bowie G19. Price and turnaround time are your major barriers.

I'm not very concerned with the turnaround time as this is not my primary, but I hope it will be after Bowie gets done with it. I like just about every aspect of a Glock with the exception of the hump on the back of the grip. It just doesn't point naturally for me with it.

Just to give you an idea of alternatives, here are just a few done by Boresight Solutions  (me) :

I had Bowie do a grip reduction, stipling and mag cut outs after a class at TDI. A total impulse purchase to be honest.

The work was great and looks fantastic. The cost was pretty steep but the biggest issue was the time it took. FOREVER. Ended up being gone 4 or 5 months and took a number of calls and emails to finally get the work completed.

If you are in a hurry, Bowie is not for you. Otherwise his work is good.

While Glocks comprise the bulk of my workload, M&Ps are starting to be a close second:

I also do a lot of restoration jobs, where the client wasn't happy with the work some other shop did, and sent it to me to resurrect it:

and my turnaround time right now is 10-12 weeks, but I'm expecting to get caught up a bit during the holidays, so hopefully Dec-Jan orders will be done a little quicker.  any questions, please email me direct, as I don't check PMs on this site often.   more info on my website:  boresightsolutions.com

He may not be as well known as Bowie or Boresight Solutions (yet), but IMHO ColdBoreCustom.com probably has one of the the most durable and (factory looking) grip texturings , best prices and the fastest turnarounds available bar none. And most importantly its done right the first time.

It took 16 weeks door to door as promised. The thing was that during that time he wasn't always working on guns, he was teaching classes out of town, which I object to. If he's going to work on guns do so and not have his customers wait while he's off doing something else.

On the plus side his work is great. The other reason I went to him was that I think he was the only one out there that used a propriatery formula to fill up the reduced area so that he could stipple on it. All the other people that I knew of out didn't have a product that they could use as a filler and then stipple over, they all applied some sort of coating like bed liner around the grip in order to stipple on it.

I know of one guy that had the bedliner procedure done, and he said it was peeling. But that was years ago.

Wife's going on 3 years of shooting her Glock 3 x a week and the Bowie job looks as good and as sharp as when first done.

The best texturing I've seen so far is by gripreductions.com

Man IMHO the Boresight Solutions jobs look a lot better, and seem to have a faster turn around time.

thanks, WN.  I take a lot of pride in my work, because there's no reason it can't be functional and look good too.

The nice thing about this type of custom work is that there's pretty much a style available for every taste (and budget).  Some guys do it as a hobby; some shops do it as a side income; I do it fulltime, and I'm glad that there are so many people doing this work, because if there were only a few of us, we'd all be snowed under and turnaround times would be measured in years like the popular 1911-smiths.

Here's a Bowie G19 that I reworked.  I won't call it a restoration, because there was nothing wrong with it.  The owner decided he liked my texturing style better, and he also wanted some features that I offer, such as undercutting and polishing beneath the trigger guard, and high-cutting beneath the beavertail.

If anyone is interested in a specific model Glock, M&P, XD, HK, etc with a specific modification, let me know.  I have hundreds of photos of different guns I've done, so odds are I can show you exactly what you're looking for.

While these other grip texturings are fine, if you would like to see ( THE  MOST FACTORY LOOKING GRIP TEXTURING BY FAR) IMHO go to www.coldborecustom.com . Their texturing looks like real factory and not like an add on or after market texturing, if that matters to you. Also if you can wait on the next generation of Glock pistols comming out after the SHOT show in Jan. 2010 , (most people) will probably not have the need anymore for custom texturing or grip reductions because of the new improved ergonomic SF grip frame and texturing that by all account is really nice. We will have to wait and see.

Nice pics.  That texturing does have a clean, stock look to it.

Like I said before, it's great that there are so many different shops doing grip work, each with their own trademark style, because there's something for every taste and budget.

Well I sent my 19 frame to Boresight Solutions this afternoon for an extreme grip reduction an coarse texturing. I'll post some pics when I get it back.
