So, cleaning my Glock after a range trip and had and an idea. I wanted to see what would happen if you put the slide on without the barrel and guide rod. I have no idea why but I wanted to see. So I did it. To my surprise you couldn't take the slide off like you normally do. I pull the trigger the slide moves forward pull the slide slop lever doodads down won't come off. I did this 2 or 3 times to no avail, so I figure the firing pin was catching. I pull the back cover off pull out the firing pin and sure nuff the slide comes off. So here is my question. 1.) why wouldn't it come off like it normally does? 2.) Could I have messed anything up? I did the function check. All seems good, just didn't know if there was anything I need to check since I was pulling the trigger to try to get it to release wlithout a barrel in it. Thanks

It would not come because you lacked the main spring.
No you would not have messed it up unless you were forcing and banging the slide off.

I have done it to so I could show one of my friends how to get his off when he did the same thing and I wanted to show you how to get it off.
But there is not need to actually do it.

Na I didn't bang or push or pull the slide hard. I guess that's why mine didn't come off like the guy in the youtube vid did. I pulled the trigger a couple times and the slide would go forward each time but would not release so I figure it was the firing pin or mainspring holding it back so I just popped the cover off and took out the firing pin and then it slid off. I figured everything was ok but didn't know if I should check the trigger connector or springs in there or anything. I have no idea why I got a whim to do that. Just curious I guess.

It is how you learn... Now you know incase the pistol jams up another way to troubleshoot how to get the slide off.

Yeah I have learned a lot about about my Glocks. The first day I had my 22 I got a book and broke it down completely and put it all back together a lot. They are def built simple and like a tank. I just didn't know if there were any adverse affects of pulling the trigger without the barrel in there. Kinda like dry firing a 1911. I know a Glock can be dry fired but just wanted to make sure. Hell the cool thing is, minus the slide, frame, and barrel you can completely rebuild one for about $100.
