how much velocity does the compensated barrel bleed off of a glock 17? -vs- a standard barrel g17

assuming a 124 grain bullet factory hollow point?  like a speer gold dot.

thanks.

Usually not much...less than 50 FPS... but it will vary from one specific gun to another. I have seen test results with a G19 and G19C where the compensated model had consistently higher velocities than the standard gun, but such is rare.

The real question for me is "why" a compensated duty-size pistol at all? The 9mm has very little recoil anyhow, and the slots create some real issues with flame and other crap thrown out the top side of the slide in front of the face and all around the front sight, keeping them clean, etc. not to mention flame cutting the Hell out of YOU should you need to fire it very close to the body or in some contorted position during a fight. Not very practical for a defensive weapon, I think...but that's just my opinion.

thanks ikor, I'm just considering all options and was thinking about faster follow up shots.

if I am not useing my .45 then I feel a follow up shot from the 9 may be needed. again thanks.

And you're welcome!

Don't fall into the trap of believing that a bigger or more powerful caliber will not require follow up shots on a determined bad guy...they are ALL little pissant guns compared to serious fighting tools such as 12ga. shotguns or centerfire rifles, and even these often require multiple hits to get the job done. The 9mm is a capable caliber used with good jhp ammo delivered to the right place on target, and while I admit to a personal preference for the .357/40/44/45 calibers, they are not necessarily "better" than your 9mm.

Repeat after me..."It's a freaking PISTOL, not a deathray"!

From what I've heard you'll loose about 5% velocity.

a round such as the 9x19 on a large frame like a g17 , your recoil should be low to begin with . So your recovery time should be extremely short. It's not what you shoot, it's what you hit.Shot placement is much more important than shot quanity.
