I went to the local gun shop tonight and they had a 19C model. Is there any drawbacks to buying the 19C over the 19 other than price? I would assume the accuracy and reliability of the 19C is as good as the standard 19.
Also, what is a "good" price on the 19C? |

I dunno about the price now (paid $525 OTD for my G19) but I'd guess that would be the ballpark. As far as the "C" designation that means it's compensated. The upside is reduced "muzzle flip" in exchange for hot exhaust gases and particulates emanating from the top of the pistol. Not good if you are shooting from the hip. The upside would be "slightly" faster rapid fire ability but the downsides seem too much for me. Practice with it and you'll never need the compensation ports.
On a side, but relevant, note...I've heard that the compensation ports can cause mechanical problems (my local rangemaster and friend HATES "C" Glocks) but don't know what. I'm sure there are others here who can expound on this point..... |

It depends upon what you are going to do with it.
If you are going to compete and do all your shooting during the day compensated is great. If the gun is for self defense and you ever have to shoot it at night, you will not like compensated. But then again, a compensated gun is better than nothing. My rule of thumb. Defense or CCW weapon non-compensated Competition-compensated Bottom line get what you want! |

The most defiantly SUCK at night. If you ever shoot +P or +P+ ammo be ready to see some wicked flamage come out the compensators. But competition and day time shooting they are nice. I have see on some blacking of front sight and it is distracting to the eyes when you are trying to keep your eyes on the front sight.
But 9mm recoil is not that big of and issue that requires C models. But if price is right you can always get the non-compensated barrel for defensive carry. |

i have the 19C and i love it!
i have had it for 4 or 5 years probably put several thousand rounds through it by now, (never ever had a mechanical malfunction) i personally think the flames shooting out the top just add to the fun factor i have shot it around sunset but never in the dark, it seems like its more of a light show for people watching from the side than from the shooters perspective sometimes i use it as my ccw gun i own it because i like and its fun |

The compensated models, especially on the Model 19 are fine for recreational usage. I would not recommend one for a carry/duty gun.
The compensation ports shoot the gas up and out. This could be an issue if firing at night. This could be a safety issue if one had to fire with the gun close to the face, either if firing in a confined space, unusual positions, (any position where the gun is held close to the face) or if firing while struggling with a suspect. I would not want those gas ports near my face with the gas going up and into my eyes. The muzzle rise of the Glock 19 in 9mm is not such an issue that I would feel the need of a ported gun anyway. |
