Cleaning a new gun is always wise. It allows you to inspect for anything odd or for any loose parts, debris, metal filings, etc tha might be inside the weapon. You don't want to run the risk of a plugged barrel on your first shot, right?

Clean it, lube it properly, and go shoot. If this is a brand new Glock I would reccomend you replace the disconnector with a 3.5 and put on some luminous sights before shooting it, but you don't have to. All my Glocks get the 3.5 and some Trijicon 3 dots before they are fired the first time.

Clean it.  Load it.  SHOOT IT!  Repeat as necessary.

Congrats on the glock.  I bought my first 23 here about a month ago.  I love it.  I have had a 22 and 27 previously, but I like the 23 the best.

That's pretty much it.  I always clean 'em first...................good opportunity to give it an initial inspection, you know.  Lube it at the factory specified lube points, sparingly.  Doesn't take much.

Shoot the hell out of it.  Despite what is said about Glocks not requiring a "break-in", my G23 did.  Don't be discouraged if you do have a couple of malfunctions in the first couple of hundred rounds.  Mine did, but after that first 200, it was totally broken in.  6,500 rnds later, hasn't missed a beat, with a variety of loads.

G23 was my first Glock.  Outstanding fighting pistol. Love it.

+1. Bought me a brand new G23 a few months ago. Sitting right at around 1000 rounds with no malfunctions of any kind using a wide variety of ammo. Ran great right out of the box. I put on some nice Ameriglo Operator sights and kept everything else stock. Only thing I have added was the NY1 trigger spring.

You did well! Enjoy.

Love my 23. First and only Glock. Pull the trigger, bang. Never jams. I'm getting pretty good with it the more I practice. I like it so much I kinda want another one..........

It was always my favorite, now I got the 36 in 45acp and love it.........   I would keep the 40, but all I have is 45 ammo, lead and reloading supplies for 45 so thought I would stick with it for awhile..

I went to the range I was shooting at 25ft I was horrible. I hit one in the center the next 49 shots low right by about a foot. Do you think its my night sights or the gun. It"s probably the shooter though need more practice. First, time out shooting the gun. Great gun though no problems.

As you said, it's your first time out with it.  Work on your fundamentals of marksmanship.  Get that trigger press down well, with dryfire practice.  You'll see your ability to be accurate with the pistol improve dramatically.

Try some extended dry firing. Many times low and to the right is trigger pull issue. Dry firing will allow you to see the front sight move as the hammer falls and correct any hold and follow through problems you may be having.

Are you a lefty?

If so, down and to the right indicates you are slapping/jerking the trigger, not smoothly pulling it until it breaks.

99 times out of a 100 it's the shooter, not the gun or sights. As others have mentioned, do lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of dry-fire practice.
