| doesanyone have both & what do you prefer ? also can you put a .45 barrel in a 23.i read in a magazine article that the glock .45 seemed to be more accurate then 1911's.ive decided to get a 23 but my next one will be a 45 . |

I have owned both and I sold my Glock Model 21 because my hands were too small to control it. I tried for about a year (shooting 2 IPSC matches a month) to shoot it but I just couldn't gat back on target fast enough or hit the mag release readily.
It was, however, accurate and 100% reliable. On the other hand, a 1911 fits my hands perfectly. The right 1911 will beat a Glock accuracy-wise. The wrong 1911 will be pie-plate accurate at 25 yards. Some 1911s won't be reliable until "broken in" with several hundred rounds. If ya got bear paws, get a Glock 21. If you don't, get a good 1911. I like Kimbers and Springfields. |
| Have a Kimber 4" with full size frame and a Glock 30. I started with the Kimber and then bought the Glock with the intent on it being something I wouldn't feel bad sweating all over in the summer time. Wore the glock hiking yesterday in a belly band type holster and positioned it over the appendix. It did ok. Next time I'm gonna adjust it to the strong side where I wear the 1911. The kimber in a Sparks VM2 is by far my favorite and most comfortable rig though. |

i read in a magazine article that the glock .45 seemed to be more accurate then 1911's. This is like saying a Camry is faster than a pick-up truck. There's hundreds of pick-up trucks out there, ergo there's hundreds of 1911s out there as well. A $1200 TRP or $1800 Les Baer/Ed Brown/Wilson Combat is certainly going to be more accurate than a Glock 21. OTOH, a Glock 21 is a virtual lock to be more accurate than a $350-400 Auto Ordnance 1911. The beauty of the 1911 series is, one can customize the gun in unlimited fashion to how the owner wishes it to be. Sights, trigger, grips, mag well, barrel, guide rod, hammer, mag release, thumb safety, grip safety, etc. can all be changed on a 1911. Yes, I realize a 21 can have many of these items changed as well, but the selection is vastly more limited in options. With the 21 it's usually "standard" or "extended" & not much in between. I've owned a Glock 30 & 32 & sold them both. I had a 20 & traded it in on a 20SF & use it for my truck gun & sometimes CCW. Were H&K to have made a double stack 10mm, I would've bought it over the Glock 20/20SF hands down. But for the caliber I wanted, Glock was the only real option, IMO. With 21 models running in the $575 or so range, I would put a Springfield Mil-Spec in the same class as far as accuracy. Reliability % factor will probably be higher across the board with the 21, generally speaking. My .o2 |

I love my 1911! i really like my G-19 (gun and ammo cheap)... I can't imagine enjoying a .45acp glock though... I'm not to sure the glock would either. I'd imagine a glock in .45 acp would be too harsh of a recoil compared to a 1911... The recoil on my 21SF is negligable. |

The recoil on my 21SF with full power rounds is not bad at all. Certainly less than my commander sized S&W 1911 (it has the Scandium frame). Shoot both, then decide which you like better. One thing to keep in mind is that not every one has a lot of luck with finding super reliable 1911's right out of the box like the Glock. That said, the only 1911 I've ever had that wasn't 100% right out of the box was a Dan Wesson Pointman I got when they first came out. My S&W and Springfield have never had a malfunction. My S&W has slightly over 3000 rounds through it, and the Springfield (GI) has just under 4000. |
