I just purchased a new Glock 17 and was wondering if I should clean it before shooting it the first time. I was under the impression
that a Glock came with a special lube which you should leave on and just shoot it. Which one is correct? certexas |

Which one is correct? certexas The 'special' lube you speak of is that copper colored stuff they put on at the factory. The only other lube your gun ever needs is a drop on each of the 5 metal to metal contact points. Aside from that, your Glock is good to go out of the box, but it can never hurt to clean it (but I don't think it's required - I never have cleaned a Glock out of the box). Otherwise, some say clean it after each shooting, others say after every so many rounds, I say whenever I get the chance. Glocks work fine clean or dirty. |

Copper based anti seize grease, not really special. I don`t like it because it`s messy stuff, I usually wipe as much of it out/off as I can and re-lube with CLP etc. But it`s good to go to as is, or you can clean it, no matter. What this guy said. Clean it or not... You are good to go... Personally, like this, I clean mine out of the box. Partly, just to get my hands all over my new gun...Partly because I don't like my guns greasy. I like them clean, but not... You won't have any problem shooting them right out of the box...There are folks who have never ever cleaned their Glock from when they removed it from the box. We are talking thousands of documented rounds through the gun without cleaning it. Me, I clean mine every single time I shoot them. Partly for the fun, partly because I like taking care of my stuff... |
