Yes, I know the basics, of don't shoot unless you clean.

I'm starting reloading and I'm starting with 45acp.  If I decide to reload some lead semi-wad cutters, can I shoot these through my Glock as long as clean the barrel after each session?

Tag. I'm curious just how bad the leading issue is with Glock barrels. (Though don't the .45 barrels have somewhat different rifling than the other models?)

I've shot them through my G21 and they feed well with no problems at all.  In fact, the only feeding issues I've heard of with any Glocks is sometimes the G30 doesn't like swc, however, that is weapon to weapon.  Shoot hardcast lead, gas checked is best, but hardcast will work and you should have the leading down to a minimum.

The Glock 45acps have different rifling from other Glocks only in that it has octagonal rifling (8 lands) whereas the other Glocks use hexagonal rifling (6 lands).

yes, it's something that would save me a lot of money and make it easier to reload.

What is needed to clean out lead from a barrel?  Hopes no 9?

I find a 50/50 mix of ammonia and vinegar works well at removing lead.  Pour into a plugged barrel and let stand for 10 - 15 minutes.  Dump out mixture, take a bronze or stainless steel bore brush and scrub out barrel.  Add a second barrel full and let stand 10 - 15 minutes. Dump mixture again and this time use Hoppe's No. 9 and patches to clean it out.  When they come out clean you know you're done.

Here's a pretty cool way to deal with lead fouling. Go to ACE (or some grocery stores) and get a package of this.

Pre-soak the bore with your favorite bore cleaner. I use "Blue Wonder" in my Glocks. Kicks Ass..

Pull off some strands of the copper pad and wrap a .22 caliber push point with it. Run it through your bore a couple times. You want enough copper to form fit the bore tightly

but still be able to push it by hand. Easy way is just roll up a .50 cal ball (for a .45 bore) and push it through. Hard to find a brighter barrel. Copper is in BOLD because these

pads are available in steel. Don't use the steel ones.

I use the copper pad on a brush without any solvent at all and it works great.
In shooting Commercial Cast Bullets in my Glocks, I could see just a little leading in the barrel after shooting a couple of hundred rds. A few passes with the brush cleaned it out.

I now coat all my cast bullets both Commercial and home cast from wheelweights with a light coat of  Lee Liquid Alox and get no leading at all in my barrels.

It works great in both .45 ACP and .40 S&W

I've heard the Lewis lead remover works great, but I don't own one.  I shoot lead out of my 23 and have no leading issues even in the stock barrel. LLR watch the demo video, gives you an idea of the copper pads mentioned above.

I've used the Lewis Lead Remover for over twenty years, primarily in Magnum revolvers. The tool works as advertised.
