We were driving to a pistol match yesterday and my dad told me a story about a deputy he worked with at the sheriffs dept once got a device from someone in South America that installed at the rear of the slide that made the Glock 17's they carried at the time fully automatic. It was given because it was something supposedly the department might be interested in purchasing for deputies.
Apparently it was shipped it to him standard UPS, no ATF notifications or anything etc etc so he abandoned it to the department (and was promptly reissued it, so everything was nice and legal) to avoid any issues.
Dad described it as looking like a small box, he didn't get a chance to examine it or take it apart to find out how it works, but he said it was a hoot to take to the range and just rip off magazine. So I figured I would ask if anyone knows anything about this mystery device, if it ever was marketed, and by whom.

Why can't stuff like this happen to me?
There are several sears that replace the rear plate on the Glock slide that will make it full auto. I don't think many of them are legal to get in the US.

This has a different one on it.

It's made of porcelain in Germany. It doesn't show up on airport metal detectors and probably costs more than what you make in a month.

Whoa, that's a hell of a drum mag for a handgun. Thank you for the pictures though, that's almost exactly like he described it. I can't see any of them being legal here, but I think when this story happened it was before all the fuss over automatic weapons not to mention it was for the sheriffs dept.

Yes there are rear plates that are used to make the Glock full auto. Some have selectors and some don't.

Don't order any unless you want to go to jail.

The "drop in" auto switch for Glock pistols (works on all Glock models) is considered to be a post-'86 machinegun.

So, it's a no-go for civilian possession.
LE and FFL/SOT can have them though.

Don't worry guys I think everyone here understands we can't have one. The OP said that his Dads friend who is a cop had one and was wondering about it. Nothing illegal was intended or insinuated.

If the department did all the paper work and issued him the gun, what is the problem? It may have been wrong to send it directly to him, but once he got it issued to him whats the problem? How else does a cop carry a gun that belongs to a sheriffs department?   In other words how does a cop keep an M4 in the trunk of his car if it is not legal? or how is it illegal for the guy to have a auto sear for his glock if it was issued to him?
I know how things work for us regular folks. I have my stamps, but I have no clue how things work for law enforcement. (We all understand that regular guys can't have a post '86 MG)

IIRC, the mags you see in videos have been converted to work with Glock mags. They change the standard feed tower over to a Glock mag.
