Ok, so I have a G17 purchased in 1989. Got it as a duty weapon for an agency I no longer work for...
The gun has been through hell. Was actually ejected from my car when it flipped about 8 years ago...was ran over by several cars before an off duty officer secured it. Heres the thing. I want a railed receiver for it. Do I send it in and get an updated receiver? Leave it as is and preserve it (not for value, but for the historical intrinsic value)? I do not have the money to buy another one, so the standard ARFCOM response of buy another one is out. What say you hive mind? |

I'd say leave it as is, it has the marks of memories on it. I think Glock charges around 150 bucks to set you up with a new FGLR frame if ya send it in. Or, you send it to them and they refurbish it for free, that is, replace worn internal parts. +1 Just get a new G17 |

But, I appreciate the input. I guess I'm leaning towards leaving as is...But it kills me because I carry my other Glocks off-duty with a light attached. But that is why I asked...sometimes its hard to make the right decision even when its staring you right in the face... |

Another vote for 'as is'.
My first duty weapon was a G31 (privately owned), which I sold when I made SWAT and went to the Kimber TLE. The G31 went through several owners over the course of the past 5 years, and I just reaquired it last week (for $200 less than what I sold it for). It's the sentiment... |
