Hey guys,
I’m a long time 9mm Glock guy but I’ve never owned any G18 33rd mags. I’ve thought about buying them a number of times, especially within the last 4 years but have never done it because I just don’t see a practical use for them? The only reason I’ve ever seriously considered them was when I had a hope that someday Glock would release a 9mm carbine that uses the same mags (ala’ Beretta Storm) but I’ve long since given up on that. With it looking like Obama will win the election and the real chance of another AWB getting passed if he does, I’m really trying to shore getting the guns, mags and parts and I really want\need now before it’s too late. I have currently have a G19, G17 and G34. I have 15 G-19 mags and 30 G-17 mags and plan to buy more of each plus another G19 and G17 but I still can’t see much need for G18 mags. What am I missing? I know some of you are buying them with the intent of turning around and selling them later when the prices go way up. I really don’t want to do that and only plan on buying what I (or my kids) will actually need\use. I guess there is some “cool factor” with the 33rd mags but form a practical standpoint, I just can’t see any use for them. Am I wrong? |

IIRC the 33 round G18 mags were made for the full auto G18. Shooting a full auto with a 15 round magazine is like kissing your sister, you don't get very far. Well I get that but I also get the fact that the chances of me ever owning a G18 is pretty much slim to none I'm still considering getting 2-4 just for shits and giggles but then I read about people have 10-20 or more and wonder why? |

Well you could get one of the Olympic Arms AR's in 9mm that take glock mags and then you would have a really good use for them. Yeah I debated doing that but decided against it. OA's setup seemed kind of cheesy to me and their rep leaves something to be desired as well. I ended up building a 9mm AR using a Hahn block and mostly RRA parts. So far it runs pretty good but I do wish I could have used my Glock mags. |

Personally I'd rather have 30+ rounds at my disposal instantly in case of emergency than 18. SWAT guys who carry shields often use extended capacity magazines like the 33 rounders because they're stuck with a handgun. There are also a number of pistol caliber carbines that take the G18 magazines. |

Every 9mm Glocker should have some. Great to be able to have that kind of capacity in a pistol. Just because.
Practical use? Home defense. A G17 w/33 rnder in place and a Surefire light make a great home defense package. And of course in a SHTF situation, you could have the pistol with 33rnd mag in place in a drop-leg or shoulder holster (horizontal, of course) if need be. |
| No offense but this question is pretty lame–– People buy shit-ass TEC 9s and MAC 11s and whatnot which both have shit triggers and the TEC at least jams like hell. Ive got a shitload of 33 rd mags, its more firepower....wheres the problem? The Glock goes bang every fuckin time, why not bang 33 times if you need to? Novelty––-NOT Use full––––YES excellent for glove boxes or middle consoles. Get em while you can. |

Ok. Here is a scenario.
You are defending yourself. Your only way out of the building is thru and past 4 armed but holstered men. They are not alert to your intent. You have to go thru 2 rooms to exit. If you shoot each man 4 times how many rounds do you have to use? Would you be glad of a 33rd mag then? I own 5. They turn a g17 into a new animal. |

I need to get me one of those. |

Only needing one mag for my AR and M19 makes sense. Dont think it's any more or less reliable than the Uzi/Colt, but I like the duel use factor. |

They're just a novelty unless you get the full auto fun. I don't consider them a novelty unless they were Scherer, becuase those are hit or miss on working correctly. The only ones to buy are the Glock manufactered 33 round G18 magazines. They serve a variety of purposes. Extra firepower when going into a bad neighborhood, or for home defense, 33 rounds is better that 15, 17, or 19, depending on what model Glock 9mm you have. I also really like them for general plinking. Some of my family live in one on Americas most dangerous cities. And if I lived there, you can bet your ass my Glock 17 would have a 33 round magazine in it will I'm in my car, with my 17 rounders for backup. Also for home invasion scenarios, where there may be more than 1 or 2 attackers, the more ammo you have ready to go without mag changes the better. Now when I am carrying concealed, it would just be the 17 rounders, with 2 17 rounders for backup. Not a novelty in my opinion. They serve a very legitimate purpose. |

I have 4, 2 with LEo markings on them and 2 new purchased 2004.
In my use of them I have found they do work better if you take the Plus +2 base plates off and put on regular plates and locking tabs. Then take the plus+2's and put them in on a 17 rounder and be sure to get a 19 round mag spring. or put them in a 15 rounder get a 17 rounders mag spring and put in the 15 round mag that has the Plus +2 plate on it. |

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but you kind of shot down your point with this: Now when I am carrying concealed, it would just be the 17 rounders, with 2 17 rounders for backup.
If you're out carrying, the 33 round mags just aren't practical. Maybe keeping an extra in a vehicle might be worth it, but I'm sure most people don't even carry a back up ammo source no matter what the size. As for home, if you bring a pistol to a gun fight, you're already behind the curve. Long guns, especially rifles work much better. So if I have to repell zombies, their is going to be a carbine in my hand. I'll take 30 rounds of 5.56 over 33 rounds of 9mm any day of the week. Does that mean that there isn't a very, and I stress very limited role for the 33rnd Glock mags? No, there may be a limited role. Since it's a very limited role, it's a novelty for the vast majority of gun owners. |
