Hey all.

I had rust on my Glock on several places; a couple of which are metal parts embedded on the frame and the rest barrel, slide, and recoil spring (where the spring meets the slide).  I took it to a reputable, local Glock armorer who did not believe me until he saw it.  He took it completely apart, cleaned it thoroughly and told me to not keep it where I have been keeping it.  This is never anywhere other than my hip and if I can't keep it there, I might as well get rid of it.  I am not obese and do not sweat more than the average person.  I am also not one to neglect my firearms.

A few weeks after this cleaning, rust reappeared.  I remove it again and am keeping a thick layer of CLP in the problem areas.  I also replaced the recoil spring because rust had damaged it significantly and did not want it to spread further.

Any advice on how to prevent this?

If the parts embedded on the frame become close to unserviceable, will Glock replace the frame?

Thanks.

Once metal has rust appearing, it will NEVER go away. No clue of Glock will help you on the warranty situation, sorry.

Good luck!

I've carried the same G22 daily for almost 18 years, the parkerizing on the slide is almost gone, but it doesn't rust. As far as the frame, at the factory they have a really understanding tech staff. They don't BS.

I'd call them, tell them your situation and ask for a RMA for evaluation of your weapon. I've been to the factory for armorer training several times. If someone has something odd happen, they want to see it to make sure it's not a trend.

Thanks.  That's why I replaced the spring, but I can't really do anything about irreplaceable parts.

Thank you.  All the rust was internal which is why it went undetected for a bit.  I first noticed it when I was doing a press check.  The barrel and slide had rusted shut toward the front of the barrel where it protrudes from the slide.  I had to rack the slide as if I were loading the weapon to get it to move.

It's good to know that their customer service is helpful.  I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks again.
