Can anyone that has fired both the regular and ported (compensated) models tell me what the difference in shooting these two are. Considering buying another Glock in next couple weeks. Wondering if the compensated was worth the extra money.

Thanks,

Terry.

imo, "no"

9mm is easy to control; the "C" version does 'help', but its very little imo

and besides the "cons" (or what i would consider "cons") of "C" glocks for serious use, i would recommend the non-C for non-competition use

YMMV

OK. just curious. Seems like "C" model would seriously mess with night vision if shot in the dark. Thanks for the reply.

depends on the ammo...some ammo, it will provide enough muzzle flash/blast at night to blind anyone temporarliy, irregardless if its "C" or not

that said, generally, the "C" does not blast as much as one would think (esp after seeing those glock magaizne pics/ads).

also, just about any ammo that has muzzle flash comming out the muzzle will ruin "night vision"

h/w, like i said, for me at least, the benefit of a very slightly less muzzle movement w/ the "C" does not warrant its preference for me over a std 9mm G17

C model's ain't worth the extra money.  I noticed very little difference.  Not worth it.  No real purpose for a ported 9mm, at least not for me.

I carry a 20C, helps alot with follow up shots. No flash with most good carry ammo. As for a 17 I would say no, they are very easy to control muzzle flip and follow up shots are super fast even with hot ammo. Alfa, you write good posts. I enjoy reading them, but please feel free to stop saying "irregardless" its not a word buddy!

I own a 19C and the other guys are correct in that the help with muzzle flip is minimal.

As for the night vision thing, that is bs. The only time I have noticed a flash out of the ports on the  barrel is if I blink at just the right time, it normally does not happen. Even if I do blink at the right time the flash is small enough and fast enough were my followup is just fine. I also want to address the front sight gets dirty after a few shots rumor. That is bs also. I can shoot 200-300 rounds in a session and never have any issues with the front sight being dirty.

I purchased a 19 and the shop called back saying that the warehouse did not have any in stock even though the pc told them they had some. They offered me the 19C for the same price so I took it. If I were to buy a new one for the C price, I would skip it.

Small difference, 17C is louder and blows crap in your face more. Also a nasty flash at night with some ammo can ruin your night vision.

I have a 20C and a 21. I can shoot followups with the C model a lot faster. The port flash is tolerable even shooting hot reloads,  and NEVER had a problem with the front sight getting dirty during a shoot.

ETA: I am not sure if I am comparing apples to oranges or not when comparing these things between a 10mm, 45ACP and 9mm???

If it's for fun and games, C is acceptable.  If it's for HD/CCW, then go with the regular G17.
