Had a friend tell me that you can take model 32 barrel put it in the model 23 and thats all that was needed to swap to .357 sig. just wondering if this is true or not?

That is correct, as long as it's a 3rd Gen G23 (has the locking block pin).
Some report reliable feeding using .40 mags, some have to use .357 mags.
