I have a G21 and the gun keeps having failure to feeds about every 30rnds or so.  I have a Streamlight TRL2 on it.  i replaced the guide rod and the problem continued.  the suggestion was made that i was limp wristing it or that i had weak mag springs.  I put my light and another G21 and used my mags and never had a problem.  a glock armorer is broke the gun totally down and found nothing wrong.  any suggestions?

How old is the 21? what generation?

What type of ammo are you using? Reloads?

when my wife shoots mine it will FTF becasue of a poor grip (didn't want to say limp wrist) . Try shooting a hotter round.

It is the newer generation glock only about 2 years old.  Most of the shooting was done with federal american eagle.  some of the shooting was done with federal HST +P rounds.  I had malfunctions on both.  Several others were shooting out of the same batch of ammo and never had an issue.  and like i said i switched guns and used the same ammo and never had a problem.  The malfunctions seem to be occuring with 2 handed shooting and not one handed.  I have heard that not using a tight grip and holding a glock correctly can cause it to FTF.  I do not think that this is an issue here.  One thing that i have been wondering about is that if glocks were prone to malfunctions just because of grip then why have so many chose them for carry and service.  The first thing that goes in a gunfight is a persons grip and stance along with focusing on the front sight.

I was about to say that the older model G21's aren't necessarily an issue.  My DUTY G21 is 13 years old and has God only knows how many thousands of rounds through the pipe, and I personally have never had a FTF or FTE, or any problems for that matter, other than dead night sights...

I was just at the armorers course and they discussed this.  You need to get the larger (11 coil?) Magazine spring.  Glock recommends this on all pistols having similar problems w/ lights attached.  If I'm not mistaken, the TRL series of lights have a screw tension.  This interferes with the flex of the frame during ignition/firing.

Ok Ill keep that in mind.  I assume that you mean a 11 coil spring.  What is the normal?  I will give that a try thanks

I will have to go look at my class notes.  I remember them talking about this.  Give Glock a call if you have a question.  In the mean time i will look it up.

Yes,  They stated any Glock pistol w/ a light attached having similar problems. Replace the Mag. springs w/ a 11 coil spring for reasons as stated above.

I contacted glock they advised that they do not make a 11 coil spring for the G21.  They only make a 10 coil.  I am going to try and switch these out and see what happens.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to look at my notes yet.  We recently had a neighboring Officer killed on duty in a MC accident and I have been busy.  I could have sworn it was 11.  Did glock tell you the 10 coil was the Mag. spring to use when issues arise like this?  In other words did they say, we have a 10 coil which replaces a 9 coil?  Just wondering.  I almost feel like racing down to the station to look now, but NOT. Really friend, I was just at the Glock LE armorers Course in York, PA a couple of months ago and thats what they said. I will look into it tomorrow.

the 11 coil spring was Glock's fix for running a light on the Glock 22.  Never seen a 11 coil for the 21 though.

Do the failures occur when the light is off?

G21's aren't really known for having attached light induced failures, but its certainly worth checking out.

I agree, I have never seen a G21 malfunction w/ a light.  The 11 coil spring was a suggestion.

Guess I better take better notes.  Notes say "use LE 11 coil mag. spring in pistols that are having malfuctions with lights attached. Do not  tighten TLR series lights too tight!"
