Anyone know how to go about upgrading a Glock Gen 2 frame to a Gen 3 frame?

Costs?

Will they make a frame with the same serial number as the existing one or would I get a completely new  serial number?

Thanks

I don't know about Glock upgrading frames to 3rd Gens for people, but I do know you will definately get a new serial number if you get a new frame.

Glock won't replace a frame with another frame with the same number, even when they had the frame recall, they put a prefix in front of the existing serial number. I had a frame damaged beyond repair and sent the gun back to glock, they put a single Alpha and five numerics following it serial frame.

If you're wanting a rail, you can buy a frame from one of the major parts houses and have your parts moved over. I'd sell the second gen and buy a good used 3rd, if you were wanting free advice

Thanks for the info.

These are police department guns and I was looking for info about upgrading the frames so that we would be able to add lights to the weapons.

The city doesn't want to spring for the money to buy all new weapons.

Call Glock and ask for the LE rep for your area, pose your question to him.

Sounds about right with department budgets.  We just got money approved for new duty weapons.  Our current guns were bought in 1994.  Soon, there will be an M&P .40 with a Surefire tac light in everyone's holster.

Most of our weapons were made then too.  We have a few new ones but most of them are made around 1992-1995.

I've replaced all the recoil springs and the mag springs but I'm not really happy with the weapons that we have.  I really want officers to have the option to carry lights on their weapons.

I'd call the Glock LE Dealer in MO and get a quote for trade in,

My agency trades glocks in and it costs about 100 a unit, before addins like night sights.

where they make their money is on holsters

Of course, I'm holding onto my issued second gen 22, it's only eighteen years old an has ~~25K rounds through it. It's barely broken in.
