| I'm close to buying my 1st handgun. It will be a Glock 19. But what's the deal with the new 4th generation? Should I get 3rd or 4th generation and why? |
|
So the fact that it's ambidextrous is the only difference? no other improvements? I've been looking to buy one here: http://www.gunsamerica.com/Search.aspx?T=glock%2019 and a few of the dealers have been offering the 4th generation model. Which brings another question, has anyone had good/bad experience buying a gun through the GunsAmerica website? The prices seem to be some of the best around. Thanks |
+1 If you labeled EVERY little change to the Glock over the years we would be on Gen 3,476.054 ver.II The ambi mag catch does not make a big enough change to call it 4th gen. |

I think they only labeled the ambi mag-catch magazines as 4th Gen to give the G21SF guys a name to call the mag in distinguishing it from non-compatible 3rd gen and earlier magazines. Mass confusion would result from the G21SF guys ordering plain G21 magazines.

| All the new Glock mag bodies are ambi cut and are done that way for simplicity of the molds. Any new mag will fit in any old frame, they all still have the standard mag catch notch in the side. Only the Glock 21SF has an Ambi mag catch and from what i was told from Glock that no other Glocks will have that feature. The new 30SF doesn't have Ambi Mag catch, but the mags are all ambi cut. They designed the Glock 21SF for the USSOCOM and had to design a Fullsize frame in .45 ACP with Picc Rail and Ambi mag realease. Since Glock and no other company for that matter was selected they produced the pistol to the civilian market. At this time there are no 4th Gen Frames. |
The Glock Model 17MB and Model 19MB are available in the EU. No word on if they'll release to the USA. MB is the designation Glock is using to denote ambi-magazine release. |
