I am looking to add a little weight to the front of my G17 to further tame recoil and flip. I like the concept of THIS thing, but it makes the front of the gun very awkward in shape. Doesn't anyone know of a similar prroduct that is perhaps a bit more streamlined. What about a special weighted recoil guide rod of tugnston or something to accomplish the same goal?? |

What about one of these? www.omegaoptions.com/products.html I've also been thinking about a tungsten guide rod for my G21SF to add a bit of forward weight to it, and hopefully give it a slightly better balance and feel. |

thanks for that link, I have been looking for that site again. I am not to sure about the whole strike plate concept, but the way that thing adds weight to the dust cover and leaves a rail in place to mount a light or whatever is what I am looking for. That thing I linked above totally takes away your ability to have a light. |

it seems to me like that strike plate thingy might reflect some muzzle blast back towards the shooter thereby increasing perceived loudness of the report?? Plus, I wonder about how well the G34 would hold up to absorbing an impact like that in its dustcover. The plate isnt' even braced against the front of the dustcover so all the force would be concentrated in the pistol rail. Of course, you should be punching a concrete wall w/ it, but a head does weigh something, especially when it is coming at you. I dunno? |
What you need is a good set of wrist strengthing exercises! The G17 doesn't have any muzzle flip to begin with so if you are having trouble controlling the pistol, I'd seriously consider strengthing your wrists. |
ok...i have NOT tried the above linked weight h/w, i have tried a variety of "recoil reduction" stuff, including weighted guide rods (harts, mercury filled, steel, etc), changing spring weights, weighted slug plugs, etc, etc i've yet to expierence such a drastic, or even sometimes noticible decrease in recoil reduction to justify the prices of those things...moreover, they usually tend to only help w/ firearms that actually have recoil (i.e: you will reap more 'benefits' if it were a compensator on a 10mm vs a lower-pressure .45acp) changing how your sights are setup, your trigger reset/pull weight/break/etc, ammo selcton/self-loads might benefit you more if you want faster shots...just dont expect too much; faster shots generall come from more practice w/ that firearm |
