I was looking at a g23, but I have heard they have some issues compared to the 9mm.  Has anyone experienced this?  What exactly causes this?  Thanks for the input.

.40 runs at a higher pressure than the 9mm.  Reloads are usually to blame for the kabooms.  The chamber isn't fully supported for loading purposes,  but there are other guns that are just as unsupported out there.   Use good ammo and keep things clean,  probably have a better chance of winning lottery than blowing her up.  Thats one guys opinion.  That wouldn't stop me from buying one.

Shoot factory ammo and you will never have a problem.  Between by 2 Glock 23's and 1 Glock 22 I have over 6K rounds through Glock .40's, and have never had a malfunction.

That said, with the curent cost of ammo, a 9mm merits serious consideration.

I have a Gen 3 with nearly 10 k rounds through it, factory barrel. Still got my gun, my fingers and my hands.

I also have a aftermarket 9mm and .40 barrel to shoot reloads through it.

Use yer head and you'll be fine.

In before the "sky is falling, Glock go KaBoom crowd."

Really?  What are the SAAMI specs for the 9mm NATO and the 40 S&W?

I don't remember,  I saw a chart on some forum one time.  I tried to locate it,  but failed.  I'm gonna guess that the .40 is in the 40,000 psi area and the 9mm  is maybe in the 30,000 psi area.  I'm pretty sure that the .45 is in the 25,000 psi area.  I'm kinda curious myself about the specifics.  Maybe I'll call glock and ask them, they're always fun to talk to.

Found it...  look at that,  both at 35,000 psi. With the 9mm +p at 38,500 That's what I get for trying to use my memory.  That's the saami version.  I was kinda right with the .45 @ +p being 23,000.   That's according to     these people     .......   It made so much sense to me that the .40 ran at a higher pressure.  Sorry about that.

9mm and 40 are both 35K
357sig is hotter than both, at 40K psi.
45auto is 21K.

Exactly.  My point was that 40 S&W isn't running at a higher pressure, that is an Internet myth.

In fact, the much heralded 9mm+P runs at a higher SAAMI max pressure rating than does the 10mm!

9mm+P = 38,500psi
10mm = 37,500psi

Don't even get me started on the 9mm+P+ !!

Glocks blow up, end of story. If if you have one send it to me for your safety.

Either shoot factory ammo or get a better supported aftermarket barrel.  I shoot cast bullet reloads in all of my Glocks, but I also have Lone Wolf barrels for my G20, 21, 22, 27, and I just ordered one for my G23 today.

With the cost of factory ammo today, bullet moulds and wheelweights are my best friend lately.  That way, I can shoot tens of thousands of rounds every year.

WOW

I was amazed that there isn't the normal .40 haters club posting in here.

You are about to join the Dark-dark side

I love my old second gen.23 It's 15 years old and hasn't blown up yet.
