I was out running a few through the G30 sunday, and noticed that a few of my mags (21 and 30 mags) won't lock the silde on the last round. After setting the "faulty" mags aside I continued shooting with the "good" ones. Same problem. Re-loaded the "faulty" mags and they ran and locked open...? It seems to be an intermittent problem with ALL my mags. Never happened before, mags aren't visually worn, and there has not been a change in grip (ie. no "limp-wristing" ).Are there any internal parts that may wear and cause this to happend, or are all my mags fooked? |
| I had the same problem occur after I installed and extended slide stop. As in your situation, the problem was intermitent so it was difficult to diagnose. After removing the extended slide stop and replacing it with the original factory part, the problem disappeared. |
Alright, my descriptive powers are weak at best. My pin/spring orientation was reversed. Make sure the locking block pin (the smaller, upper pin) is in before you install the trigger pin and the lever/spring assembly. This will place the spring under the locking block pin. Sorry for my confusion. |

I went through that once or twice over the years, I learned both times it was me and my thumb and not the glock, especially if you have the extended release. It is easy to ride it a little bit a prevent it from locking back. Try some strong hand only and some off hand only and I bet it won't do it. Load mags with 3 at a time, you will get to the bottom of things a lot quicker. If after 10 3 round mags it does not do it with a one handed grip, then you can be assured it was something on your part. From there you have to find it and fix it. |
Come to think of it, that's kinda what I did out of frustration. After having issues for the first eight mags, I took the last four and dumped them strong handed down range as fast as I could empty them. No problems... At that point I went back to shooting the 1911. Had I been less ticked, I might have made the connection. Hopefully I'll get out by the weekend to try again and pay more attention the thumbs.
The more I read the above line, the more I am convinced. I don't remember this happening before I got my 1911, and I know my left hand grips the 1911 differently. Using the same grip on the Glock would make it easy for this to happen. Thanks for all the input fellas... |

it is more fun to blame the gun or the ammo, I try to all the time, but it human (me) 99% of the time. The quicker you figure out how to diagnose yourself the better you get. The guys I watch that shoot other platforms sometimes never get to diagnose because they will experience more shit in one match then I have seen in a lifetime. mag plates falling off, stovepipes, saftey left on, loading an empty mag after going dry, sights falling off, light strikes, you name it. One of the problems with Glocks is they so rarely F up that you get a little rusty on failure drills etc. |
![]() <===Former 1911 shooter that says "Quit riding the slidestop". Actually, I cut mine down to next to nothing for that reason. Just enough to lock it when I want to unload, or for malfunction clearance, but not enough that the base of my thumb hits it when shooting. |
| It's your thumb...trust me. I've been shooting Glocks for years and all of a sudden I developed failures to lock on the last round. I thought for sure something had worn out or broken on the gun. After much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, I figured out my thumb is riding the slide stop lever. I'm using a much more thumbs forward grip than I have in the past. |
If al of the above fails look at your slide. Look at the notch that the slide stop lever locks into. Does it look rounded, rolled over, material missing? This is what happened to mine and after sending the gun back to glock 2 - 3 times they finally replaced the whole gun. They said that metal was eroding off of the slide.

Quoted: Shot a few hundred today, and think I fixed it. I still have ONE mag that won't lock back, and I know it's not a thumb issue. There is no wear when compared to the others so I'm not sure what the issue is...I may have to scrap it. Oh well. ![]() I just had a problem with a new G17 mag. It has the cut out in the front like the G21SF mags. I loaded it up and shot it without a problem until no slide lock. I tried it again and it did the same thing. Upon careful examination I found that it had a .40 cal follower in it. Being the good Glock person that I am I went to my supplies and pulled out a 9mm follower installed it and presto, no more problem. Before you melt down the mag check the follower just in case. This is the 1st time that I have ever heard of this happening. |
