Does anyone know what was changed in GEN 3 to the GEN 4 Glock 19? Or have some type of educated guess? Thanks. |
It was posted on wikipedia.org that a 4th gen glock is being produced but as of 10/05/2007 Glock has not made an official announcement of what it is. Also, I read somewhere on this site and others about it. I don't know if it is BS or not but their seem to be people talking about it. That’s why I posted here to see if anybody knows about it. |
What’s wrong with the new rails. Just curious because I'm about to guy G19 and want the best one. |
The 3rd gen has the old style rail, which is good if you want a rail. The 4th gen has a rail like a cheese-grater and would be prone to snagging. It's bulky and overkill. Some people may like the 4th gen rails. If you want a G19, go with the 3rd gen or earlier. If you don't like the finger grooves, go with a 1st or 2nd gen. Other than that there really isn't much of a difference... The older models don't have the extractor "safety" bump, and they have one less pin to deal with during disassembly, which is really nothing to be concerned about. Here's a couple comparison pics... Notice the difference in the grip, and the lack of a rail on the 1st and 2nd gen frames? Frame gen differences This is a close-up of the 3rd gen rail: 3rd gen rail This is the 4th gen rail: (4th gen) Picatinny rail Hope that helps. If it didn't, go here. |
Those rails do suck for CCW. |

Most of my Glocks are Gen 2's, but I do have a Gen 1 G17 which I prefer over the Gen 2's and above. I have large hands, but the grip is slightly thinner and it has an even texture all the way around. I have a few Gen 2.5's, too. Even though I don't like the finger grooves on 9mm or .40 Glocks, I do like the feel of them on my Gen 2.5 G20. No Gen 3's for me. Living in MA, compliant Gen 3's are next to non-existant for less than $700-$1000 used. A rail isn't that important to me! Even if you like the look and feel of a Gen 1 G19, good luck finding one. Gen 1 G17's are out there and available, but I heard there was less than 1000 Gen 1 G19's produced. I've seen them sold for anywhere from $850-$1200. Again, I like that grip, but not enough to make me pay that much for a Gen 1 G19 over a Gen 2 G19! |
I double your ![]() , they fucked up the glock by putting on those rails

Wow you guys are behind. The G21SF is available with different combinations of the standard GLOCK rail, picatinny rail, ambi mag catch and regular mag catch. The G17 and another model or two are available overseas with the ambi catch as an option, but not the rail, and not in the USA. This is not a generation change at all, simply a couple of options that are available. Kind of seems like GLOCK is just testing the waters with the options to see if anyone would want them before allowing the options to be available across the whole line. |
