I love my G17 but I purchased it when MD gun dealers hadn't figured out a way around the required mandated gun-lock. I was stuck with buying one that had the stupid key-lock in the grip. Does anyone think that a Glock this device is any less reliable/durable than a Glock without it?

You may want to call Glock and ask if they will remove it or swap it out for you.  I wouldn't THINK it would not function properly, but I know the S&W locks have been a problem on some guns.  Better safe than sorry.
