I just made a trade for a glock 21 and it has one of those guide rods with the lazer in it. I have no idea who the maker is, and Ive never really liked the idea of a weapon with a lazer on it, so I will most likely replace it with a SS captured system.

My questions are thus:

1) is it worth a crap in the first place? or is it gonna futz out after 200 rounds.

2) whats it worth, what should I sell it for?

Most likely it's a Lasermax. I've had one on my G36 for at least 5 years with zero issues. I also have one on my XD Sub Compact 9 with same result.

You can get replacement springs from LaserMax easily too. Battery life is very good. I have changed the batteries once in 5 years. I don't use it every time I shoot. It's really there as piece of mind, and it was a great training aid when I was getting used to the G36.

Doesn't replace irons or the ability to shoot with irons. It's just another tool that might give you an edge if needed.

All that said, LaserMax sights generally run about $350.00-$400.00 new. So i'm betting you could sell it pretty easily for $200.00 + if it's in good working order.

Lasermax is the only company producing a guide rod system. Great product not a cheap POS. Retails for $339. I'm not a fan of lasers myself but that is a higher end product.

A buddy of mine has one on his G23. I shot it and was very impressed! Point of aim was about 1 inch different from point of impact at 12 yards. The difference was in elevation, not windage. I have considered getting one, but my eyesight is very good so I can't justify the expense. Plus I have tritium night sites. I would not sell it unless you need the money.

I had one for about 2 years on my G23, POA was dead on.

The ONLY problem that i have with the lasermax unit is that after about 10 rounds the lens of the laser gets dirty from the muzzle flash and you can't see the laser anymore.

YMMV

Yeah I've noticed it too.  Also to turn the laser off you must use your off hand.  i prefer Crimson trace grips they last longer and do not take as much abouse as the LM.
