Well, I've never seen, nor heard of this. An officer showed me her duty gun, the left rear frame insert was broken off. She said it shot fine, got done to clean and noticed it. Unknown how long it has been broken. I guess there's always a first, anyone else ever heard of one of these breaking? Round count is unknown, maybe 3-5k based on tenure. Mark |

I should have taken one before she left to the range to have it replaced before work. Why the pic?, curiousity or don't believe it. I'm partial to Glocks, so it's not a bash thread. I have two 17's with at least 20k through one and 25 through the other. I've only ahd a trigger spring break on one. Mark |

If you are talking about the frame rail, and it is on a 22 or 23, yes I have seen them. Chances are that it is an E series sn and Glock will replace it. Also it will still fire and function with one rail missing, but I wouldn't do it. We had one officer come into the shop with both rear rails broken. |

From Glock: "The GLOCK Corporation has identified an issue with a very small percentage of GLOCK pistols produced between September of 2001 and May of 2002. The specific issue that has been identified is the potential of breaking a rear frame rail in pistols manufactured during this time period. Within the specific range the breakage rate has been less than 0.0188%. So, while the actual percentage of rails reported broken is within any accepted manufacturing tolerance, it is not an acceptable situation to the GLOCK Corporation. It is also important to note that under most conditions GLOCK pistols will continue to function with three rails. A routine maintenance check after each time the pistol has been taken out and used would immediately indicate if there is a problem. We are, therefore, concerned that a limited number of customers will not get the product we have promised them and what we have always delivered, the very best pistol on the market, in short, a GLOCK. For these reasons, we have made the decision that in the interest of customer service, replacement frames will be offered to anyone who has a firearm in this range and decides to take advantage of this offer. The replacement frames will have identical serial numbers to our customer's original firearm except the numeral 1 will be added as a prefix. If you believe your firearm is within this range, please call 1-866-225-4098 to take advantage of the ultimate in customer service. Nothing less than the best for our customers is acceptable to GLOCK and, as always, we will continue to work towards Perfection." Edited to add: www.thegunzone.com/glock/problems.html -p. |

I bet standard wear could do that, or a small defect in the plastic or metal could cause it. THe amazing thing is that Glocks will still function normally even with a major defect or problem. I cracked the slide near the ejection port on my G17 and it fired for about 50 more rounds before breaking the lug off the barrel. I know of no guns that could do that sort of thing and still work apart from maybe a kalashnikov. |
"Standard wear" isn't going to break a frame rail insert, unless you're talking about "standard wear" of around 1M rounds. It's a defect. Glock will fix it free. If it's one of the recalled "E" series, then the same serial number, with a "1" added will be assigned to the new frame. If it's not an "E" series, then you'll get a new serial number that won't match the barrel and slide serial numbers. |
I guess I didn't hear about the civilian part...... I got a notice at the gunshop I was working at, where I had purchased my G33, to send it in for frame replacement. I had no problems before or after. I sent in my 31 after the fact and they were more than happy to help me get a replacement frame, even though my frame rails were fine. While they may have made a critical error in judgement at first, they are now making it right and they have had excellent customer service in all my dealings with them. I think as a whole, the vast majority of the firearms mfg's have had to reevaluate their CS skills and have done so to the betterment of their customers. (Colt excepted |
| I have one of these "E" series guns, when I found out about this "optional replacement", noone wants to call it a recall, I called them and they kinda tried to talk me out of it. IF it ever breaks Glock will replace it for free, blah blah. Anyway, got the frame replaced with a "1" added to serial # as previously posted. Glock picked up the return shipping, pretty hassle free for a civilian. Just thought I'd mention m experience with this. |

I was notified through my FFL holder about the recall on my Glock 19 (ESW prefix) when it occurred. He had contacted Glock and they sent the replacement frame to him before I knew that there was even an issue. It was waiting for me when he contacted me to come in and trade it out. I think that Glock's customer service was/is exceptional. TK |
