A friend of mine has a a G-22 with the NY-1 trigger.  Soemthing I noticed shooting it was that there was a LOT of travel in the trigger before it started to take tension. Is this normal for the NY-1 trigger? Is there a fix for the travel?

Take out the NY trigger.  Whoever thought that it was a good idea to convert Glock's excellent trigger pull to a revolver-like pull sure wasn't on the same page as I.

You can control overtravel with a couple of different aftermarket devices.  If you do much to pre-travel, you'll disengage the firing pin safety.  I always shoot from the trigger reset position which eliminates the long pre-travel.

Agreed.  Replace with factory trigger and shoot from reset position.  Glocks were designed for this!

Replacing the trgger group is not an option. It's a duty weapon.

It will depend on the department armorer. IF the department allows you could replace the factory NY-1 spring with a standard factory trigger spring. Other wise he is stuck with the way it was issued.

If you cannot replace it, Practice dry firing and practice live firing mixed in with dummy rounds until you get more used to it.

Good Luck and CY6!
