I just got a new g19 for my birthday, I am in the process of finding a good defensive round for it. Is it okay to fire +p ammo in a glock? Polytech |

Glock 9mm barrels are designed to safely handle chamber pressures of 43,500 p.s.i.* 9mm +P is loaded to ~38,500 p.s.i. and the Glock can handle those pressures all day long. Be advised though, that shooting higher pressure ammunition will increase the rate of wear in any given firearm, but I suspect that few people could afford enough +P ammo to wear out a Glock. Buy and shoot what you want and have fun. Don't worry about wearing out or hurting your Glock as long as you are using quality factory-manufactured ammo. I do have a few boxes of the Black Hills +P ammo, but haven't shot them yet. But, I can offer the following: they used to use the Gold Dot bullets, but nowadays are using Hornady XTP bullets. From what I have read, the XTP bullet tends to penetrate more, and expand less, than a Gold Dot; also, the XTP expansion is less reliable unless driven at high velocity (+P). How that information affects your ammo choice is up to you. At any rate, Black Hills do enjoy an excellent reputation for quality and quality control. |
