I could have sworn that I read that the armed forces of Israel had dropped the Jericho in favor of the Glock 17. However, I was poking around the net tonight and I read that the G17 was not standard and that the Jericho was still standard issue. So which is it? Or is it both?

I have read that the use the 17 and the 19.  I read it on an israeli military site but now you have to pay to view it, so I haven't looked at it in a while.

Edit to include the site, it's 9.99 a month now.

So do average troopers still use the Jericho?

There are no "average troopers". Army units use whatever they deem necessary. Standard police (traffic, etc) use Jericho or FN BHP. Some special police units use Glocks.

Standard IDF are issued M16A1,, some with M203 attachment's. Soldiers are not issued handgun's. Some elite  police units use the glock 19 as well as the GSS (shabak - shin bet)

most M16A1s were phased out of infantry usage.

That Jericho has a good rep as far as performance goes in the sand over there, which is almost like a talcum powder in some areas.

Yeah, we call it "Pudra" - makeup powder. It gets into everything - even into cellphones and wrist watches.

Actually it's a copy of Tanfoglio, some of the original guns were made with Italian parts.
Tanfoglio make CZ-75 clones.
