i have a springfield xd service model in 9mm and i recently got a offer for it from my sister so i am selling it to her. i am going to get a glock to replace it because it fits my hands better, and i have a few questions for you glock users.

what is more practical 9mm or 40 it is for self defense/plinking.

can you order the + 2 extensions in california?

what has better accuracy if i do my part?

compensated or not?

i also have a tlr 2 tac light..will this fit the rail on glocks?

should i equip night sites even though i have a tac light? i live in a bad part of town so it stays on my night stand, and if so wich ones?

give me your opinions please.
thank you.

The light should fit.  Don't you have a ten round mag limit in cali, if so, then no extensions.  Mepro night sites are good, I don't bother with them.  I train for low light so I'm used to it.  The accuracy difference between the 9 and .40 is something that you won't notice.  If your of average strength, compensated is a waste of time, and will ruin your night vision should you have to shoot at night (some people say that it won't it does for me)  9 mm is better for plinking because it's cheaper.  The .40 puts a bigger hole in people and will do more damage when it hits.  Not a whole lot more, but a little.  Sometimes a little is all you need.  My carry gun is a Glock 22.  I used to be an EMT and have witnessed what all the major handgun calibers do to people.  I can't find a .45 with the capacity I want, so I carry the .40.

Just my 2 cents.

Glock 22 user here too. I have a couple of 10mm's that I carry and shoot alot, but for the most part it's the 22. I just prefer the 40 over the 9mm.

The only real benefits to the 9mm is the capacity and price of ammo. I may be wrong, but I am thinking also that you have a maximum capacity in CA which would negate the benefit of the nine.

I personally have 2 G-17's and a G-30.  I had a 23 and sold it due to caliber cut-backs since it was the only 40 I had.  Couldn't afford all the different ammo's.

If I were you and ammo cost wasn't a worry, I would go with the 40. Either the 22 or the 23.  I really liked my 23 since it was easy to CCW with.

I would also go night sights even with the light.  I did on mine and it gives me the extra options.

.

9 is cheaper than 40 ....For self defense...Its all about shot placement and
the ammo your using

can you order the + 2 extensions in california?

Yes you can order them...Installing them on 10 rnd mags will be an issue..
From my personel experiance....They are un reliable..Use only Glock
manufactured mags and you will be fine...If you can find some pre-ban mags??
Thats the way to go...Remember...Only original GLOCK

what has better accuracy if i do my part?

Its a GLOCK...I don't care what caliber there in...They all shoot very good..
Better than most shooters.

compensated or not?

Personel choice

i also have a tlr 2 tac light..will this fit the rail on glocks?

The newer models...YES

should i equip night sites even though i have a tac light? i live in a bad part of town so it stays on my night stand, and if so wich ones?

YES you should....Trijicons...My FAV...
Ameriglow,Hienie Straight 8's, Mep's and XS sights....Personel prefance as to which brand and also how much can you $$$$
Eletronic items can fail at the worst times..

Deffinatly a 17.....but have you looked at a 19??

give me your opinions please.
thank you.

Two more things....
With the exception of night sights....Leave everything else ALONE
Trigger springs...Titanium and bells and shit like that
Leave the insides ALONE....
I have done all those things and I ALWAYS HAD ISSUES with reliability.
As for barrel size...Its all about the ammo and shot placement..

i havnt looked at the 19 much but its not for carry..besides for when im hunting and i dont need to conceal it then..but most of the time it will be at the range or on my night stand.. and i do like to shoot alot and i dont reload so ammo price is somewhat of a issue but i want to know wich caliber performs better..is the 40 just more stopping power or does it have alot of veolcity over the 9mm? and i dont plan on doing anything to the internals of the glock..they are great pistols made to function in the worst conditions..and thats what i need..somthing reliable that i can depend on..so i wouldnt fuck with such a great design.

The .40 has superior performance over the 9.  As I said earlier.  I didn't get this info from looking at charts or ballistics tables.  I got it from working downtown Little Rock for almost 6 years in an ambulance.  .40 works better than 9mm.  PERIOD.  Just the same as a .45 hole is better than a .40 cal, but to me, you give up to much in capacity.  And to some extent speed with which you can fire multiple rounds accurately.

The "the only thing that matters is shot placement" crowd wouldn't carry a .22, so they don't evey buy there own BS.

so that being said the 40 sounds better. but how much more is the ammo ? and how much is 357 sig ammo? because i think if it is around the same.. a glock in 357 sig would seem nice? are the marines going to change the pistol cartridge into 40? i heard that somewhere and im starting to notice that most police departments are carrying 40's now.

.357 sig is a great, but expensive round.  If I recall correctly a box of winchester white box 9mm (100 rounds) is about 12 bucks.  Bout 15 for the 40 at walmart.

At my local Walmart WWB .40 S&W 100 rd cost $17.00.

If you get a G22, all you need to is a .357 barrell and you can shoot both.

IMO the Glock 17/19 are the best thing to come out of Austria.  I do love my G21 though.

Yup, buy the .40, spend an extra $120 for a 9mm barrel and a 9mm mag and you essentially have two guns in one. One for defense, one for practice.

Hey .......we can do this 9 is better than 40 and  so on.....

Shot placement always matters no matter what no matter what caliber..
get a 17....only reason I mentioned the 19 is because of the size.....just right.

FWIW, I have a Glock 17, 19, 34, 22, and 29. The 29 is my ccw. I really like it. However, my G22 is a 2nd gen, I have a 9mm and 357 Sig barrel for it. It would be the last to go of ANY of my pistols. I have never had any problems out of it. My advice would be to find a real good condition 2nd gen  G22 and get an extra 9mm barrel for it. I do not change out ejectors when I shoot 9mm out of my G22, never a problem. Heck, I came across a great deal on some high cap G22 mags a while back and "tweaked" the metal lips in some and use them for 9mm shooting-no problems either.  If you use a 9mm barrel in a G22 all you need is a G17 mag otherwise.

Go with the 17.

9mm is not much smaller than .40 S&W, the money you save can be used on more practice ammo.

I own the 22 and wish I would have gotten the 17 or 19.

i think im leaning more towards the 17 now. I know that shot placement matters and i kind of like the fact that with a 9mm if i needed to squeeze off another shot i could do it fairly quick, 2 to the chest 1 to the head. im very confident in my abillity to shoot accuratley under pressure..i know in california the maximum limit for a mag is 10..but i could get hi caps in reno if i needed to or how could i get my hands on some hi capacity mags? pre ban would be nice?? how much do they go for..money isnt much of a factor because ill be able to sleep better knowing i have a few more rounds in the mag..
