Is there a noticiable difference between the 22 and the 22C?  I am thinking about getting one but not sure if it makes that big of a difference.  Thanks.

The "C" is for a compensated model.  It has two slots on the top of the slide and barrel at the front to allow the gases to escape and help with recoil.  Some people say it effects their vision, mainly at night, but other don't have a problem with it.

Now that you mention it; my lcal surplus/gun shop got a G23C tpday (probably an order for a customer), plus I own a G21C; it works great, except for the muzzle blast, which is kinda like standing behind a NHRA funny car coming off the line; except closer.

That's a bit of an stretch. I own a 24C which has 4 ports and it's not that bad. Barely noticable with .40 S&W.
You might want to try some lower flash ammo like remington golden saber. Some powder in some loads is awful in .45 acp.

I bought a 22C over a 22 just to have one glock that was a "C". I can tell a little bit of muzzle jump reduction, the coolness factor is a plus, the front sight gets all dirty though with carbon

Only with crappy ammo.

All ammo will emit carbon, just a matter of amount, which leads to  of number of shots eventually fired.  Smokeless powder isn't smokeless
