I currently own a Glock 26 that has been my trusty companion for many years while hiking in the woods of Northern New England and for home protection. I have been in the market for a full-size gun and the 17 was the logical choice. However, I did notice the 34 on Glock’s webpage and would like some input on which one to buy. What tactical type thigh holster do you recommend for the 17/34. Lastly, I’m also ordering it with Trijicon’s night sights. Would you recommend the regular 6.5 mm or the NOVAK style? Thank you for your time, Wolf |
Welcome to the site!i do not own a 34; overall, i would pick the 34 if you planned on shooting competatively or want a little extra velocity and sight radius (nothing really significant)...if not, i'd just opt for the G17 or G19 tactical thigh holsters: Safariland and Blackhawk are 2 i can recommend as to the trijicons, i have not used thier novak styles on my glocks, but i'd recommend em as a night sight brand to use; i can also recommend the meps and heini straight 8s btw: try finding more glock info ANYWHERE else but thier website--they have not updated info in a few yrs.... |

I have Glocks 21,26,34,17. and the 34 is by far the most accurate, I shoot +p+ ammo in it and you would not believe how it shoots. If you can carry a full size 1911 then a G34 will be no trouble they are almost the same size. gofor it! BTW for a house gun get a g18 mag and I like the blackhawk omega for a tac holster. |

I have 2 G34's as "house" guns (one upstairs and one down - in quick access safes, of course) and both my wife and I love them. I have a Surefire X200B with the SL11 switch on order for each. I'm also the caretaker of a relatives G17 while they are out-of-country and I really like the 17, too. My CCW is a G19 that is awesome. If there is a chance you will CCW the new gun, I'd go w/ a G17 or the G19. The G34's do shoot great, tho. I prefer the 6.5mm sights only because it is easier to do the one handed failure drills (it is easier to catch the sight on something to rack the slide). I use both Blackhawk and Safariland and they are both great products. |

I have a G35, and have shot G34's, and while I like the fact that the 35 fires a .40 caliber round...the G34 is a joy to shoot...low recoil, very accurate, and it's just as sweet as pie. I have a blackhawk holster (I have to see which one) that is designed for the G17/22, and my 35 works just fine, the front of the slide sticks out the bottom a bit, but it's no big deal. Hax |

I had a G22 (same size as the G17) but got rid of it and later got a G35 (same size as the G34). I like the G35 way more than the G22. The guns are basically identical other than the barrel & slide. There are a few other differences (connector and adjustable sights) that make the Practical/Tactical a sweeter pistol in my opinion. The G34 is only about a little less than an inch longer than the G17. As long as you aren't worried about concealing this pistol I would recommend the G34 all the way. Good luck. CSP |

Thank you for your replies. I have been leaning towards the 34 and it really helps to hear from folks that actually owns both guns (and are gun enthusiasts as well) when it comes time to make the decision. Any additional input about the sights would be appreciated since I do not know the difference in-between the conventional Trijicon 6.5 mm and the NOVAK style. Lastly, I’ll not use the 34 for hiking. My 26 will still reside in its tuxedo holster for years to come. The perfect gun for that duty. Light weight, and plenty of fire power with a 10 round magazine in the gun and another 17 round mag attached to the holster. Wolf |
| +1 for G34 or G35 - they balance and shoot well and are outstanding home defense weapons, IMO. G17 is great too, but the 34 and 35 are my favorites for their accuracy and balance (and let's not forget the trigger pull I think is better on the 34 and 35 for a home defense (not necessarily CCW) gun) |

I have the 17, 26, and 34. If you are going to use the 26 for hiking duty, like I do, then buy the 34 over the 17. The 34 comes factory with the lower weight trigger pull which allows you to keep it factory as a home defense gun should be. Holster selection for the 34 is more limited if you want a closed end model. Finding a holster for the 34 with the light attached is a challenge. There are only one or two manufacturers and they are back ordered. Not that you mentioned lights but you will. A 34 on the night stand with a 33 round magazine and a M3/M6 light is comforting. |
I could not agree more! Have an M6X for my AR-15 and will get one for my G34 as well. |
