About to take my first sip of Glock Kool-Aid, and am looking at a 9mm Glock for giggles.  Would be a gun for the collection, and maybe work its way into tac pistol classes (if it can beat out my XDs).  Recommend a 17 or a 34?  Only $90 difference from Topglock, not a big deal for me.  Thanks in advance.

There seems to be much love for the 34 in other similar threads.  I've never shot a 34, but my very first Glock was a new G17 bought a few weeks ago.  I also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I'm happy with my decision.  The G17, the original.

Get the 17, later on you can get the 34

If I was only going to buy one 9mm Glock, it would be the G19. (Yes, I know - not one of your choices.)

If I was only going to buy one 9mm Glock and knew I would NEVER use it for CCW, it would be the G34.

(FTR, I have a G19 [my primary CCW for a dozen years now], 2 G17s, a G26, a G34, 2 G21s & a G30 - I don't mind the Kool-Aid at all! )

G17/G19 first, G34 later (if you like the other models)

Be careful. Remember Top Glock has nothing in stock. They order when you do. You can get great service or wait forever.

I vote for the 34 by the way.

I vote for the 34.  I bought a 35 a few months ago and really like it.

34 or a 19.

My progression of 9mm Glocks has gone like this:  19, 26, and now a 34.  I may eventually get a 17 and then a 17L (just to say I have all the 9mm models) but the last two arent a big deal to me.

BTW, a 34 can be carried as a CCW piece. The grip is no longer than a 17, so if you can ccw a 17, a 34 is a snap.

As far as 9mm goes,
G19 for carry.
G34 for everything else.

After you get these 2, then decide if you still want/need the 17.

I say if you are never going to CCW it then get the 34.

The only problem with the 34 is that nobody carries the mags for them.

He's just foolin with you, the 34 takes the same mags as a 17.  I just ordered a 34.  The action shooting sports appear to be ruled by the 34 and 35 untill one gets into the space guns.

I vote for the 34. It was my first Glock and I have never had any regrets.

It is by far my favorite to shoot.

Just so you know, I plan on getting both the G17 and the G19 as well, so it really doesn't matter what you get first because you're going to end up wanting them all.

But like the others have said, if you don't plan on CCW, get the 34.

I have a 34 for my house gun and I'm about to get an OD 34 for another house gun (two story house - one up one down, secured from the kids of course, told the wifey we need the same guns to simplify training on them and I'll have to get identical Surefires on them for the same reason...then she says "I thought you said Glocks have the same controls an all of their pistols"...Damn!)

for an all around pistol, the 19 is hard to beat (got one of them, too) but you'll love the 34

If you just want to plink like it sounds like you do get the 34 because it will be more fun.  I use to work at an indoor shooting range and most of the guys that got 34's just to plink with loved them to pieces right away.  Now you always have the option of putting all the parts of the 34 onto the 17.  It wouldn't cost more than 40 to 45 dollars if you had someone else do it, but for 45 more dollars you could have just gotten the 34.
Plinken and you don't care about the less than 100 dollar difference get the 34.
It sounds like you have plenty of guns in the safe for ccw
If you want a good carry glock get a 26 or 27
I've put mine in a pocket holster in my khakis and it looks like a wallet.  A thick wallet but one none the less.
Whatever you do know you can't go wrong owning one of these wonderful firearms.  Just have fun and get the one that tickles your fancy the most.

'nother vote for the 34.  I just like the way it looks over the 17.  That little bit extra length makes all the difference for me.

I had the same dilema as you...ended up with an OD G-17.  Figured my first Glock should be The first Glock, and I like the look of the 17 over the 34.  I swapped all of the controls over to those from a 34, and put a 3.5# connector in it.  Primary use is range/IDPA...it works great.

G34 is my fav Glock, and the only Glock I still own. I really like the stock lighter trigger it comes w/ too (U can get it w/ a 3.5 connector or the standard 5.5 connector). It is a great gun.
