My facts might be a bit fuzzy but here we go.

There were 6000 +/- long slides imported back in the late spring/early summer 2005.  Those 6000 included the 17L and 24 and 24C.

These guns were last made on Gen II frames and the 6000 +/- were the first ones made on Gen III frames but it was an extremely limited run hence the extra price.

If you can find one it WILL bring a premium.

Got mine for $650 after ordering it from a dealer here in Portland.  You can tell me I overpaid, but I don't care 'cause I absolutely love that thing.

Oh, and last I heard there are exactly 500 gen-3 G17L's in the US.

I found one of the Generation 2 G17L's for $428 out the door.  It turned out to have a broken locking block but the replacement was paid for by the seller, so no big deal.  Another shop has a used one for sale as a "anti-terrorist gun" for about $569 plus tax.  I guess the prices vary even for the new ones, as is evidenced on gunbroker.  I wouldn't pay anymore than $650 for one of the new ones, and I wouldn't have paid more than I did for the one I bought.
