Looking for my first glock and don't know which one to get, this is pretty much a caliber debate, but what do you guys use? and what do you like/ not like about them. PS. gun will be used hard for range shooting, tactical competition, and eventually ccw, My uncle thinks he can out shoot me in any tac. scenario with his SW99, I doubtit., thanks for any info/pros and cons |
Not really. The sig round is faster with a lower pressure, and the bullet design is a little different. That said, the 19 is the way to go. Cheaper ammo, higher capacity, and the 9mm really does kill people just fine as long as you hit them where needed (which is easier with the lower recoil 9mm which you practice with alot). BTW, as far as I know, you can't make a Glock 23 shoot 9mm - different breechface (case size is different). You'd need a new slide, wouldn't you? To convert to .357 sig, all you need is a new bbl. |
LIB - I was under the impression that the case head sizes were different, is that not the case? I guess I need to go compare the two (I have a 9mm and .357 sig) to see if they are the same before I go spoutin' off. |
I like the G19 for these purposes. 9mm is innexpensive, which is good if you want to do a lot of range shooting, and there are plenty of 9mm ammo choices that are perfectly acceptable for CCW, not to mention 9mm mags hold more rounds. |
All the 40 parts will work with the 9mm(except mags). I have done the conversion on several Glocks. Yes the case head on the 9mm is smaller but not enough to make a difference. |

"All the 40 parts will work with the 9mm(except mags). I have done the conversion on several Glocks. Yes the case head on the 9mm is smaller but not enough to make a difference. " Hotrod, are you saying any glock 9mm barrel, or a barrel specifically designed for the conversion? I'm thinking of getting rid of my 23, as I'm wanting a 9mm to suppress. Even if I bought a 9mm, I'd still have to spring for an extended, threaded barrel...sounds like maybe I won't have to get rid of the 23? Also, any chance I'd have to change out the extractor? Thanks in advance, ETA just ran a search, now I understand that a conversion barrel is in order...but can't find one that is extended length. Any suggestions? |
Yes, you would need a 9mm conversion barrel. The factory 9mm barrel is smaller in diameter then the 40. The 9mm conversion barrel in larger in diameter for the conversion. I have yet to change any thing other then mags. I have read where others changed out the ejector, extractor and the spring loaded bearing but did not give a reason. |

I agree with many out there who feel that the G19 is "The Thinking Man's Glock"...an excellent choice IMO and better than either of the others for a first Glock. Later you can get either the G23 or 32 and add a factory barrel of the other caliber for two guns / three calibers. G19 |
| I was going through the same debate a couple weeks back. I ended up purchasing the glock 23 and have on order the 9mm conversion barrel so I can shoot either caliber. I also placed an order for a threaded one so I can add a suppressor some day in the near future. That is after I move to a free state ,, LOL |
