thanks in advance

Probably.  Personally i use dish soap, water and an old toothbrush to clean my glock.

Stuff it in the dishwasher and post pics.

Yes you can, but the GSR, lead and oils left inside the washer would not be good for human consumption.

Sorry...just the thought of putting a Glock in the dishwater is a funny concept to me.  I'm sure you can do it with no problems.  It's just funny to think about.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.  I'll stick my 1911 in there and see what happens.  LOL  (joking about the 1911)

I want to just chuck it in there LOL, but I don't wanna trash (maybe) the newish G19  to test it. I'm po'

I'm going to call Glock first thing in the AM and find out though

I'd say just do it, and then call Glock - either with pictures to show that Glocks are dishwasher safe, or to ask them to replace their obviously defective pistol that came looking like it was thrown in a dishwasher.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission or something like that.

NO.

WTF is wrong with you people -- you want to contaminate your dishes with lead and other toxic stuff?  Anyways, one of the few ways to weaken the Glock frame is to put it in really hot water (over 120 degrees).  Therefore, don't put it in the fucking dishwasher.

+1, It is my understanding that hot water would be the Glock polymer's one true weakness. It's nylon based and is vulnerable to hot water.

thank you, that was my thoughts on the polymer.

damn y'all, it isn't like we don't inhale a ton of lead gasses, and God knows what else when we shoot, the little bit left over after the electrosol tab would be minimum IMHO.

If the nasty cast iron skillet with cooked on grease   doesn't leave residue, I doubt the glock would either.

the polymer was my only doubt, and that was a good thing apparently .

so warm water at 120 degrees if gonna damage the frame moreso than x degrees of heat from the slide after a 90 round string?

prolonged 120 degree heat on the polymer frame I could see causing warping, the slide is still on metal rails (less area to heat up)
the grip/magwell doesn' t ever get that hot does it? I wouldn't think so.

guess one of the guys in AZ/NM/TX will have to let us know if there is any problem with their glocks in the hot car all day at 120+?? Hint Hint.

Alright, I just called glock.

they said, that it IS dishwasher safe and as long as you use air dry and not Heat dry,
I was told it wouldn't be a problem as long as your wife doesn't mind you putting it in the dishwasher and lock it down so it doesn't fall into the element..

So

That's what I like to hear!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll have a ham sandwich on top of my Glock also.

Just wash the gun by itself and there will be no problems at all.

You would have to wash 100 nasty dirty Glocks twice a week in order to recieve any ill effects from lead and chemical residue.

When I grew up we used to wash all kinds of stuff in the dishwasher.

Everytime I see a dishwasher thread I'm reminded about my old roomate's K&N filter I pulled out of the dishwasher one day..............took about 6 more times on wash cycle before I felt comfortable enough to drink from a glass again.....

If not the Glock pistols......is the Combat Tupperware dishwasher safe

Seriously though, we used to clean our M16 parts in hot water from an immersion heater in a SS trash can. Yes, this was an active duty unit.

The M14 guys are using the dishwasher to strip the wood stocks....it does work pretty good.

Throw it in the spare dishwasher if you want, just make that your "gun and parts" cleaning machine, and don't use it for anything you plan on using for food. 120° heat won't do jack-s**t to a Glock frame, other than make it warm. It will not do one iota of damage to its structural integrity.

A quote from
The Glock Papers

The polymer frame

Glocks are almost indestructible.  The frame is made from a high-tech polymer that is stronger than aluminum or steel, yet lighter than both.   Because it is not made of metal, it cannot rust.  It is immune to all normal solvents (including gun cleaners, lubricants, etc.) and can withstand 400°F heat.

The frame actually flexes under the impulse of firing and absorbs some of the recoil; of course, this happens so quickly that the shooter does not notice anything but lighter felt recoil.  Combined with the wide backstrap and high bore axis, Glocks are some of the most comfortable and controllable guns to shoot.

My only concern is the nylon cracking in cold temperatures or when heat cycled. There is a class action lawsuit going on with Ford intake manifolds (100% dupont zytel nylon) cracking at the front seam which carries engine coolant through the passageway. That area sees a bit of vibration/torque as well as being heat cycled on a daily basis (from as cold as -50F to 220F). eventually it will bust/crack. Ford's permanent solution was to replace that entire area with cast aluminum.

In addition, if you take a mallet and take a good whack at the nylon when its really cold, it can shatter.
My Glock 17 receiver flexes a LOT at the bottom of the grip (magwell area), and I mean enough to make me not squish it as hard in the future.

Never said there was a thing wrong with buying a Glock, but it seems that many normally rational people purchase one then suddenly become inclined to take their weapon and throw it in the mud, fling it from buildings, stick in the dishwasher, let their dog chew on it, run it through the juicer, etc. Why abuse a weapon just because it can take it? Hell, my truck has safety features that can protect me in the event of a head on collision- I've never been inclined to go plow into a brick wall then post pics of the results to show how well the crumple zones work and how "tactical" I am for "testing" my equipment. I fail to see how much "sense" there is in paying hard-earned cash for something that I am going to trust my life to, then intentionally abusing it.

I wasn't being "tactical" (LOL), abusing mine like the test thread or even praising glocks.

I simply had a question on a good cleaning after reading a few threads on this site and a few others that mentioned the DW as a possibility, (I'd heard this a few times and wanted to simply know fact/fiction), next thing I knew glock buyers were stupid.

My XD has gotten so hot sitting in the AZ sun that you couldn't pick it up.  Had to cover it with a rag and move it in to the shade. No damage.  Most resins don't go goofy until 250 plus and I don't think they will get that hot sitting in the sun or in the dishwasher.

I think they should try the microwave rather than the dishwasher...

Guys, I hope this was done in jest.  Working for a major appliance manufacturer, I can tell you that washing your Glock in a dishwasher shouldn't harm anything in theory, but if you wash it with dishwashing detergent, which is mostly chlorine, you're going to rust something.  If you use a dishwasher with automatic Jet Dry dispenser, that'll create problems as well.

Short answer is avoid it.  Kind of like drying things in your microwave.  Yes you can, but why would you want to?
