I have no idea if this is legal or if you can even get one, I'm not sure Glock sells them to regular people.

It seems like a waste of cash to me even if you can get one. I can understand being anxious to wanting to get a pistol (boy can I). But to be honest after you spend a couple of hours and realize you've mastered safety loading, unloading etc I think you will be bored with it.

Stick the money in the bank and start saving up for ammo, holsters, magazines etc. Or get a pellet gun with similar controls to train with.

To be honest I'd just ignore pistols until I was old enough. Master shooting a rifle and shotgun in the meantime or even learn a martial art that might help in weapon retention. You will have a lot more fun with a Ruger 10/22 (if you don't already have one) than you will with this training device, I think.

Is it illegal to own a pistol if you are 19 in Cali? I do not think it is a federal law. You just can't transfer one through an FFL.

At least as I understand it.

Hey Everyone,
I was stationed at Camp Pendelton from 1988 to 1991. I bought my first Glock, a newly released Gen 2 Glock 17, in 1989. More specifically, I got a friend who was 24 to buy it for me, then we went to the Oceanside Police Department with the pistol and transferred it's registration to me. At that time in California, you could own a handgun at 18, but couldn't buy it from a FFL, until you were 21.
I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
Harry

So far as I know, the Federal law is that you must be 21 to purchase a handgun...not to "possess" one. Otherwisw how would the many young LEO's be able to carry without special exceptions in various areas?

In Fl. you must be 16 to possess a firearm without an adult present...including handguns. Both my children had pistols of their own at age 16. I have seen LEO's whose parent had to purchase the gun for them, yet we could allow them to use it in their job. Crazy, huh?

Citabria...that is a little bizzaro my man, and with some gang-bangers painting real guns with bright paint to make them look like toy guns, could be damned dangerous at the wrong place and time. Be careful!

i never take it out....its just there to get used to the feel of it.  i've been doing it forever.  when i become 21 and get my real pistol. it will be just a natural thing.  it stays covered up at all times.  no one knows its there. and most of the time i forget about it...untill i sitdown or somthing...but like i said, its covered and never leaves me when i have it.  i dont show it to people or act as if i am a badass or anything.  its a training device and thats what its being used as.

in this day and age (thanks to the psycho fuck up kids who should have killed themselves and left everyone innocent out of their pathetic meaningless little lives) carrying a concealed butterknife to school could potentially land you on front page national headlines, much less an artificial training gun.  I would not risk it, what if one of those 60 year old police crosswalk guard who has never drawn their gun in 30 years freaks out and shoots you over seeing the handle and you reaching to adjust it

Are handguns registered with police departments in Kali?

Er- I don't think that's such a hot idea.
-Are there any prohibitions against carrying simulated weapons, how about to school whether parocial or not?
-Having a simulated gun just seems like it could lead to trouble even if you have no intention of ever showing it.
-I don't think there is any real training purpose involved here. Once you get your pistol spend the money to go to Thunderranch and learn what you are doing. In the meantime I see no practical reason to carry a training weapon around.

Really this is no one's business but yours, but you posted it & I just hate to see you get in some kind of jam. Again none of my business but does your dad know you are lugging this thing around? If I remember correctly you mentioned that he was a former LEO and he had even expressed a reluctance to let you go to the BRC (understandably) because of the after hours alcohol and lack of older supervision for you while shooting. I'm betting he doesn't know/approve of this. Please reconsider continuing to do this.

Course I did far worse at your age but that ain't the point now is it?

Hey Brother,
I don't live in California any longer. However, at that period of time, handguns were registered by the state of California, as well as with Big Brother, the Federal government.
I hope this helps.

All transfers of firearms in California must go through an FFL, so 21 is the age of legal ownership of a handgun. You can get a rifle or shotgun at age 18.

Dude, bro, man listen to these guys.I carry a model 22 and there have been times when i was in a store or somewhere standing next to a cop.Alot of cops hate guns and further more some are not sure of the law, this makes me a little edgy around them.I wonder how many incidents involving look alikes have costed a life.I carry legally and don't purpose to speak for all cops .Your taking an unneccessary risk. How stupid would it feel to have an incident on your record jepordize your chances to own the real thing.Buy a shotgun and shoot steel,i think its more fun than compettive handgun sometimes.
Not my business either but thats my takeheavy.gif

Alot of good advise here.  I'm LE and I see a major concern here with someone underage carrying a training gun.  In my town, we had 2 college students sticking up convenience stores with BB guns that looked like real handguns.  They were caught after several stick-ups and if it was any other cop on the Dept, they would have both been shot.  One was sticking the gun in the clerk's face and the other was pointing it at the cop.

I know you are not going to do anything stupid with your training gun, but around here, someone ends up looking down the barrel of our handguns when they won't show us their hands, forget about seeing a flash of a concealed "handgun".  Someone gets jumpy and something horrible could happen.  Not only could you get seriously hurt or killed, but the officer has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Think things out, play it safe and wait until you are old enough, get a real handgun, train and carry it legally, safely and confidently.
