I have shot a few glocks, full size and compact and am thinking about getting a Glock 26 9mm. My dad has a Kahr PM9 for his CC piece, i didnt like it, i thought it was to small. And had a hard time aiming it because of its little size. How does a Glock 26 compare to the Kahr in size? Ive never shot a Glock 26 and am wondering a few things. What mags will it accept? Is the Glock 26 a good first glock? I will be using this gun for self defense, keep it in may apartment or car. Will hopefully get into gun matches and be able to use if for that; but mostly keep it near me for security. Any information would be helpful so please dont hold back.

My main thing is accuracy. I want to be able to hit targets and keep a relatively good grouping. My dads Kahr wouldnt even make groups, i felt it was because of its size it was to small and hard to handle. Im trying to be as clear as possible with my opinion of the Kahr, and want to make sure a Glock 26 wont be give me the same results. If anyone has experiance or can give me input it would be appreciated.

Thanks, -Nate

I have personaly experience with the 26 and 27(27 mine, 26 dads).  They are plenty accurate, but they are much harder to shoot then say a full size glock.  I would recomend if you could carry a 19, go with that insted, but if you are willing to practice enough, you can get quite proficent with the sub-compacts.  When I do my part, I can cloverleaf with the 27 at 10 yards.  However Im not able to do that as often as I would like.

I liked my G26 for concealability but used the mag extentions to get a decent grip on them. At that point a G19 would have been better. Personally I would get the G19. It's also got to be one of the most popular handguns available.

My Glock 26 groups well at 25 yards and under.

I dont really shoot for tight groups with defensive pistols, I shoot to group rounds in the part of the body (target) that I'm aiming for.

That being said, I can consistently place rounds into a head at 25 yards with it.

( Fuck the grip thing, as it shoots well enough with an extention or without.   Plus, it can use 15, 17, 19, 33 round mags of it's older cousins. )

It shoots like a regular sized pistol with one of my 17 round mags in it, although it's louder and has more muzzle flash than my Glock 17.

I think the idea of getting a G19 first is a good idea, especially if you have pretty big hands.  I have had a 26 for years, but never really enjoyed shooting a Glock until I got the G19.

If being able to conceal is paramount, get the 26.  Otherwise, get a G19 and practice with it.  You will find it can be concealed and is much more satisfying to shoot than the 26, IMHO.

Get both!!

I have both and I like my 19 better.  I'm not taking anything away from the 26 but the 19 conceals very well and fits my hand.  How ever the 26 is excellent for that purpose and groups very well. Ive carried a 26 IWB, in an ankle holster and a pocket holster and it has worked fine in all of those for me, but my 19 is my go to gun for CCW.  I recommed holding and shooting both the 19 and the 26 before you make your decicion.  Then you can choose what you like better and you can't go wrong with either of them.

I have the 26, 27 and 19.  The 26 and 19 have become my wife's property and the 27 is my CCW gun.  The 26 is incredibly comfortable to shoot.  It and the 27 are so easily concealed that the 19 has become a house gun.  For carry I have become addicted to the 27-sized Glock, as it's just so easy to hide even when compared to the 19, which is very concealable.  To prove a point, I have shot the 27 in IDPA matches and even taken a number of stages using it, but the 19 is much more suited to dual-purpose carry/match shooting than the 26 or 27.  My $.02.

My wife is 5 feet tall and I'm going to get her a Glock 26 cause it fits her nicely.  I agree with the 19 being easy to conceal.  I carry a G36, but the 26 is a fine handgun in itself.

Go with what fits you better, the 26 may be a little too compact for your tastes.  Your call.

I have the 26, It deffinately gives you more options for concealment (i.e. try to fit a 19 on your ankle or in your pocket). The 19 is a great gun also but you are limited to where you can conceal it and this may be a factor depending on how you want to dress.

I usually tell people that want a CCW gun to go with the 26 and have a few mags with the extension (or the longer 17 rd. mags) for practice and competition and a few of the standard 10 rd. short mags as an option for carry. This way you could carry the 26 in your pocket with a ten rd. mag on monday, and tuesday if you feel like carrying IWB you can use the extended mag. It just gives you more options.

I usually recommend the 19 as a house gun, duty gun, range gun, competition only gun, etc.

If you just want a carry gun then the 26 is great but since you stated it will be for carry, home defense, car, and matches then I would definetly go with the 19.   Before I bought my 19 I was going to get the 26 but after some thought the 19 seemed like a better fit, which it was and I am extremely happy I went with it over the 26.

I love my G26! Put the pinky-rest floorplates on your magazines and you'll get a fine grip!
