| I'm looking at an optic for a Glock 17 MOS which will be carried fairly regularly. What are the inexpensive (not cheap) options? Anyone using the Vortex Venom or Burris Fastfire? |
|
I have a fastfire on a 22. It's nice.
With that said would I Not carry a phillipine made optic on a carry gun? eat ramen for a few weeks and get the Trijicon. The only people up to par building optics I'd depend my life on would be USA, European (aimpoint and swarovski come to mine) and japanese built optics (high end vortex, swaro optik and zeiss conquest line) sadly, the only company currently producing a RMR I will trust is Triji. Phillipine stuff is nice but just don't trust it quite right. If there was a japanese made RMR I would buy it in a heart beat but it probably would never happen. Mayabe vortex can come out with a japanese manufactured RMR? High quality like their high end scopes If I was gonna go cheap I would go vortex all day. All I ever hear is nothing but excellent customer support out of them. So yea if you wanna go cheap, vortex. |

It's phillipine made, so the quality will probably be the same. It will probably be a hit or miss but more hits than misses with these. I have a fastfire like i said and love it. its only 22 of course but like i said you're probably going to get some quality stuff (sounds racist but Philippine make was better stuff than chinese)
I bet you can go with vortex with out hesitation and if it has issues I hear they will literally just send another one I'm not a huge history buff but I heard the Asians had some of the most innovative glass in WW2 so a nice 100+phillipine scope will probably be pretty damn good. Edit: funny thing is I'm reading the SIG romeo RMR (100 more tyan the vortex) is made in china...everyone is equal but china is a commie country who eats cats and I wouldn't buy a 400 chinese RMR. |

heres a qoute i found on arfcom
"t he Viper is made in China, the Venom is made in the Philippines, and and Razor is made in Japan." So there you have it. Three levels of Asian quality, same company. I'm buying a razor for my next FO-land |

Dual Illuminated RMR=No Battery's needed & on all the time
I made a video last night describing some of the differences I've noticed between the FF3 and RMR if you want to watch. YouTube Video |

I've had a fast fire fail on me on a 22 that doesn't have a reciprocating slide. So they are not going to go on my pistols that will torture them.
I run RMR's on mine, I know it costs a little more but I rather not have the expense of buy 2 optics after the first one fails. Vortex has a lifetime warranty from my understanding, so you can go that route. |

The Venom on my G19 MOS has been trouble-free for one year now. If left on at typical settings, the battery will last four months. So, I'm already on the tail-end of my third.
The Viper looks nicer, but the rear-facing adjustments are quite problematic if you intend to use aftermarket co-witnessed sights. Not to mention that you have to remove the Viper in order to change the battery. I was about to upgrade to a Leupold Deltapoint, until I discovered that it would not be compatible with the tall sights I just installed a few months ago. They just aren't tall enough.. Will probably end up putting an RMR on it, and moving the Venom to a (almost never used) Rem 870. But for now, the Venom is working great. |

If you need CR2032 batteries, you may want to go to a "discount" pharmacy (also known as an independent pharmacy). I think I buy my batteries for less than 50 cents each (energizer). |

Trijicon recommends the Sony brand batteries from what I've read online researching the RMRs prior to buying... from what I understand CR2032 batteries vary slightly in size by manufacturer and Sony is most consistent in putting out the 'proper' size for their RMRs. And for a battery I'm relying on, I don't want to get the wrong size and have flicker issues. Even buying Sony via Amazon I paid under 45 cents each. Attached File |

That's strange Bc I own 9 rmr's and they shipped with energizer batteries. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/159941/IMG-1513-208060.JPG Quoted:

I'll see if I can find the thread. Since I've started using Sony batteries, no flicker issues in the one that I had issue with. Link to flicker / RMR issues on P&S... left cold on purpose: https://primaryandsecondary.com/forum/index.php?threads/rmr-flicker-and-info-from-trijicon.2900/ In reading that thread, it's not Trijicon gospel but it's a start. I've seen refrence elsewhere to using Sony vs. other brands... but use what works for you. The Energizer I removed from my flickering RMR 06 went into another and didn't flicker there... so that battery had issues in one sight, but worked fine in another. I've purchased a 10 pack of Sony batteries for 4.05$ shipped... it'll hold my RMR needs for at least a year. |

Who's selling the Shield RMS? New one or first generation? Quoted:

I have rmr's on mine but I'm really tempted by the new shield rms. With their mos plate it sits low enough to not have to use suppressor sights. It looks like a good option for $350. JP is supposed to have them as a US dealer as well... but the only thing I could find was the MOS mount. They still list JPoints at 299$... is that the first gen rebadged? I'll be interested to see them in the wild, but until I see em as being as rugged as the Trijicon RMR's... I'll likely stick with the RMR 06s for now. |
