Will a gen 3 slide work on a gen 2 frame?

Yes it should. As long as it's the right size frame

Yup..... I have interchanged my G17.2 slide on to a Gen3 frame many times.

Yes, gen 2/gen 3 interchange slide to frame. Just not to a gen 4 frame (it will fit, but, there is a gap-don't know if safe either).

I bought a gen 4 frame and at the time did not know the slide from my gen 3 (this on big bore 10mm/.45 I'm referring to now)
would have a gap between the slide and frame.
